Records, policy.. fine. Who said I perceived it that way? I'm telling you, Joe comes across as angry and bitter and a hot head... it's in his body language. They had to have agreed to try and limit his smug and snide to simply smug and snide rather than shark-like attacking and condescension.
this is why i percieved it what else was I to take from this sentence? It sounds like your saying she cant handle it because shes a women... I understand what your saying about the perceptions others may draw from these debates but i hope americans can look past superficial things that distract attention away from the real issues.
You left out the --> which indicated sarcasm, and makes my point clearer. (you said "Yes I want that" for the record. So are you for making them look bad? <--- that means I know you're not for them looking bad.) Obama's team agreed because they are worried about the women of America changing their minds again... the polls keep shifting... If Joe came out and blasted her, it could make the ticket seem overly flippant toward women. That's what I'm saying. Issues are fine... it's just all in how it's done. Answer me this... Do you think the questions won't be structured around the issues? Will that not finally be a breath of fresh air in this mud fest?
The problem is Palin has effectively turned this into a glorified question and answer session( as another poster said)...can she think and form opinions on the go? can she debate biden directly? we might never know if the format has been severely changed.
wow...just avoid the issues dude...I was simply giving credit for using the same sentence structure as a poster earlier in the thread...but thats cool ignorance is bliss avoid the real questions here! she cant face the media she cant participate in real debates yet she is somehow ready to be the mccains vp...I hope to god that if they are elected mccain stays healty
and Im happy to know that you think so highly of me that your comparing what I post on this bbs to what palin must face at a debate really dude stop deflecting real questions and real issues with this bs logic. Please
James Fallows did an article on previous Presidential primary debates and he brought up the Senate debate between Alan Keyes and Obama. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Md2bf9DNVB4&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Md2bf9DNVB4&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> I think we'd be fortunate to see that Obama again.
This would make some sense and wouldn't surprise me were it the rationale. While there is some evidence of the presidential debates having some degree of impact on the outcome of the race, I don't think, and examples such as Bentsen/Quayle would confirm this, that the VP debate holds any significance whatsoever. And this would seem to be even more true considering Palin's ultra polarizing nature. As seen by the general reaction toward the Gibson interview, people who sympathize with her won't be swayed by what would appear to be a poor performance, while people who already hold a negative opinion of her will simply reaffirm those beliefs, with no net difference. Still, despite the little difference it would have had, I still find it to be a travesty that a candidate for the vice presidency is being allowed to be coddled this much.
It's a good thing my computer has an irony surge protector or this might have fried my hard drive... If Obama uses more 'uhs' than John McCain it's because he's actively thinking about his answer which leads to verbal pauses. John McCain just launches into soundbites and outright ridiculousness, e.g. "I wish interest rates were zero." I have taken a few of these "debate classes" you refer to, and I know that a compelling argument contains a claim AND a warrant. In this respect, Obama and McCain's argumentative styles are just like their civil liberties policies, one produces warrants and the other feels it isn't necessary.
It's as good or better than the "let's post every r****ded article I find with no personal commentary" strategery that you employ.
I, too, get really tired of posters calling somebody a "rook". Who cares? This is not the NBA, and your post count does not mean you are entitled to be respected just because.
