Reason Obama switched the debates is because he knows that foreign policy is where McCain can oust him. If that were left to be the last debate, Obama could be at a disadvantage leading into the election. Now the last debate is on domestic issues, where the McCain camp has shown weakness. Works out for both sides now that I think about it. McCain is focusing on the smaller picture (Biden/Palin).

conventional thinking has been that McCain could oust him on Foreign policy, but I don't see that. McCain doesn't seem to know foreign policy all that well.

really dont think thats obama's reasoning... maybe more people watch the first debates and he would like to get his message thru and show that he can handle foreign affairs.

gee,why would people think such a thing? maybe cause he doesnt even know the difference between sunnis and shiites, or maybe its because he doesnt know who zapattero is or that spain is in fact in Europe and not Latin America?

Exactly. Don't support a POTUS nominee that says he'll debate the other nominee "any time, anywhere" only to completely wuss out and go with a structured, same old same debate.

First off I think the whole idea of taking the debate out of the debate is laughable, and makes the republicans look like a bunch of whimpy kiddy baby whiners.

Secondly, I think it's very telling who has NOT posted in this thread.

Which is exactly what happens in this forum, every day on every thread. The debate and discussion is thrown out in favor of name calling and dog piling.

Monkey poo flinging at it's leftist best. Every stinkin' thread.

    Unbelievable.

Some of you should take a debate class, or read up on what that's like in real life. It's not a flame war or macho-measurement party.

And again... your fearless "leader" Obama backed out of the infamous challenge that McCain made when he threw down the gauntlet of head-to-head Lincoln-Douglas debates.

Obama's the anti-debater... he probably made straight A++'s in speech class though.

Sans telprompter, Obama's going to be exposed as befuddled, unable to make decisions on how to answer, and I'm sure he'll set the record for using "uh" in a Presidential debate.

McCain didn't agree to Obama's requests regarding the townhall debates as well. It wasn't all Obama. But I agree with you about the name calling and not enough debate here in this forum.

Um, the issue from Obama's camp came from the sheer number of debates McCain proposed, not from the structure. We saw in the primaries what happened as Obama/Clinton had debate after debate -- they essentially repeated everything over and over again and the debates lost their effect and meaning because voters were so tired of them.

Three debates is plenty, and to my knowledge, they've been very open on the format. It's not exactly comparable to Palin's request (and grant) not to go through one single legitimate debate through the entire process.

[Lowering expectations]I agree. He'll barely be able to string a couple of sentences together. McCain will clean his clock. Obama is useless without a teleprompter. McCain is great off the cuff.[/Lowering expectations]

I'm not trying to hijack squat...

BTW- I think the main reason the Obama team agreed to the VP debate changes was to try and ensure that Biden didn't come off more crass and insensitive, and therefore condescending and misogynistic toward Palin.

I think it's a mutually agreed calculation on their part.

Biden leaned in (a body language indicator of aggression) when recently asked about the tax plan (which he blazingly fast answered with the "patriotic" gaffe) when being interviewed by Kate Snow of GMA.

They agreed to try and tone down Joe "patriotic taxes" Biden... IMO of course... but I feel that's the plausibility of this arrangement.

You really want hot-headed Joe attacking a woman? ;)
