Regarding reform. Did we have any complaints from McCain about no bid contracts for Halliburton? With Abramoff, Delay etc. and Halliburton it does make sense for newer Republicans to claim they are into "reform".
I wonder if McCain realistically thought he had a good shot at getting votes from a lot of Hillary diehards. From what I've seen & heard here in Houston from Hillary delegates I thought he would. And from the women I know, McCain just shot a hole through his foot that would make even the current veep envious (well, he hated McCain anyway). Amonst the female Hillary supporters I've heard they loathed the notion that they were voting for Hillary solely because she was a woman and not her qualifcations. They also denounced male "panderers" (even a man who voted for Hillary like myself) who tried to convince them Obama wasn't the anti-christ after the Texas delegation awarded Obama more delegates after he lost the primary. I see McCain getting votes from his base from picking a staunch pro-life candidate when he'd been a pro-choice guy until recently, and his anti-Bush rhetoric in the past will probably get some conservatives out to vote that may have stayed home otherwise. But in terms of the Hillary vote I believe he threw away an opportunity. I wonder if McCain knows what he wrought here and he just might Because he just woke up Hillary & Bill away from an almost certain hibernation mode. I guarantee Hillary's historic candidacy and her years of public service being compared to a woman who was a mayor of a town of 9000 in Alaska two year ago is going to bring out Billary's best/beast. Well someone had to do it, and the Democratic Party's base just got galvanized. Hell, Obama didn't do as good a job last night as McCain did today. This election will be more fun than the first month of the Rockets season be you a Democrat, Republican or Laker's fan.
I could have seen Hillary hamstringing Obama subtly, hoping to win in 2012, but with Palin on board... tooth and fang time for the Clintons. Clintons don't share the stage well with others. Now my concern is the Clintons' will bloodrage and try TOO much and won't go along with Obama's campaign message discipline.
It strikes of gimmicky desperation and a wing-and-a-prayer hope that undecided voters will mistake this for a real sign of change. All I'm going to say.
Of course the Clintons will "bloodrage" but I think it will be highly focused. Oh, and speaking of vampires, Bill looked better Wednesday night than he has in in a decade. And his speech was the best one I've heard since before he was elected. Scary indeed.
Easily. But, if (God forbid) something happened to either McCain or Obama in their first term in office who would you rather see in office? Palin or Biden?
And the Illinois Legislature meets 70 times a year. And the Texas Legislature meets every other year. Palin isn't part of the Alaskan Legislature. What's your point?
I don't know. McCain hasn't been that effective of a reformer, but he's tried at times. It's certainly easier to reform Alaska or Missouri or Louisiana than it is to reform the Beltway. I love this, though. McCain's also going straight at the weakness that Obama picked up when he chose a warmonger for running mate and got all hawkish on Russia and the Sudan. Because the neocons still have a lot of influence, it'll be tough, but regaining the party of peace banner from the Democrats is a worthy goal.
Does it bother anyone that she only has a BA in journalism? Shouldn't the VP of the USA be more educated than that???
is anyone noticing how she is energizing the conservative base? if she holds up for 2 months then this is clearly a home run pick for mccain and not this hail mary stuff people keep saying. people keep talking about how this was just done for women but this clearly does a hell of a lot more to shore up his somewhat weak base of support from the conservatives. are any of the critics of this pick noticing this?
McCain has never met her in person and they've only spoken on the phone once. Yeah, this isn't a risky move.
