You give them the same answer that some have used to justify torture. You tell them that sometimes for the good of the country the President has to do dirty things.
Would hit, how long did that take seriously, she sounded great at the introduction speech. i think she's going to appeal to those older white women alot more than hillary did, at least the more conservative ones fyi, i saw someone mention the scandal, i don't know if it was clarified, but apparently she fired some top state trooper or some kind of law enforcement dude who is the boss of her sister's husband, her sister and bro in law are apparently having problems
It's McCain's new economic strategery. He's going to hire all women so that the government doesn't have to spend so much.
Are you f-ing kidding me? The whole "Obama is an empty suit and not ready to be president" argument is dead in the water. Do you think Biden won't hammer the crap out of her? Here's the big issue- a 72 year old cancer survivor has nominated a person who has been a two year governor of Alaska and a mayor of a small town. That's it. It's more than likely that she would the Commander-in-Chief. Can anybody seriously say she was the best Republican picked for the job? Compare this decision to Obama's pick of Biden. As a Democrat, I'm thrilled with this pick. I mean, wow, the governor of Alaska who is in the middle of a trooper scandal? Really? Great. It is further proof that McCain is loosing his marbles, but it is also kind of tells us what kind of president he would be- insane.
lol, genius! Since women still make only 80% of men, what better way to cut government spending by a quick 20% than to hire all women. Brilliant.
I'll say this. McCain needed to be bold, and he was. I think he would have been better off with Huckabee, Jindal, Snow or Collins--but this is intriguing. From what I have read she is interesting. A hero of the Christian Right, hunter, military mom, and staunch anti-abortion with a dramatic personal story to boot, yet actually allowed domestic benefits to same sex couple to happen for Alaska employees. Fought other Alaska Republicans on corruption. Fiscally conservative/independent. But by all accounts she seems like a personal/professional tough cookie ("Sarah Barracuda") and should not be "misunderestimated". But in the end of the day I think she holds too many extreme positions and is too inexperienced (makes Obama looked extraordinarily seasoned) to attract Hillary PUMA supporters or Independents (Snow or Collins might have done that). McCain both tried to play to the social conservative base and to some Hillary disgruntleds--I just don't think they can pull the latter with this pick. My wife described her this morning as a "Republican Wet Dream". I the vote was tomorrow that might work with single women and mainstream suburb soccer moms--but luckily there is time to get the details--and I have a feeling most Hillary supporters will not identify with her once it all comes out--Alaska is a heck of lot different than the rest of the country. And yes is does kill the "experience". Now way one can argue McCain-Pailin is more experienced than Obama-Biden, or argue Obama is not ready while Pailin, with no national/international experience and a 2 year Gov of the most distant state (socially, geographically), is. It turns it back into more of a direction for the county/ideology debate--and based on last election that is the last thing McCain wanted to turn it into.
biden's going to look like her father giving her the what for about coming home late from some date with some football player two classes older than her I think they have factored in the vp debate as a loss
I actually think this complicates things for Biden more than the GOP. Palin's about the only candidate I can think of that neutralizes his best advantage - going on the attack from a knowledgeable place. He has to watch himself now. He can't hit her nearly as hard as he could have hit any of the other contenders, male or female. It could come off as mean or bullying by virtue of her relative youth and sweetness. I think they factored in the VP debate as a wash.
I find it interesting people are saying the "hot factor" is a good thing. Most women I know don't like other hot/tough/poised women. As my wife said this a "Republican Wet Dream" pick, I doubt there was consultation by high level women in McCain's camp.
Man, reading this board you would think the VP debate is of utmost importance. I must have seen it referenced over 100 times the past week.
Have you seen the McCain campaign political director that's always on Fox News? Talk about a hot/tough/poised woman. I'd think she had a say in this somewhere.
Biden and Obama campaigned for months against Hillary. They'll do fine with Palin. The big difference between Obama and Palin is that she was appointed to the VP slot and he won the Presidential slot. That's huge. It's also a big difference between Obama and McCain. McCain was the last barely sane non-Mormon that the establishment could hold their nose and accept. With the specter of Romney or Huckabee running the Repub Party for 8 years, there was nowhere to go for the crowd currently in charge. McCain was given the nomination by the strength of the status quo. Obama beat the heir and wife of the most gifted politician in my lifetime. He took it. Again, big difference.
