The point isn't who's job it is to know. The point is that he is enough that he isn't sure, and the fact that he owns 4 and 10 of them, and is in the position to have financial staff that should know that instead of him is exactly what makes him out of touch with the common man, and dulls the elitist BS slung at Obama. Not only that but he owns some random number of homes, and is that out of touch with the every-day guy, but is trying to tell people that the economy is strong, and his former adviser is calling America a nation of whiners and telling them their problems are all in their head.
McCain did not plant that question, out of the blue no less, in the press core at that event. Who would most "benefit" from exposing this? As an owner of one home... I don't care if they BOTH have 20 homes... If they've made good investments and have earned it - even if they've "gained" by marriage... whatever. But if they defraud and get property... that's something else. In my view, Obama had an operative plant this question in the media's minds to try and be a preemptive strike to counter the Rezko thing... Most of the mainstream voters haven't even caught on to the Rezko thing yet. But they will. And saying "but McCain has a lot of real estate" won't matter. Yeah capitalism!
Yeah I remember Obama's speech “The campaigns shouldn’t be about making each other look bad,” he declared in his brief appearance at the DNC winter meeting. “They should be about figuring out how we can all do some good for this precious country of ours. That’s our mission. And in this mission, our rivals won’t be one another, and I would assert it won’t even be the other party. It’s going to be cynicism that we’re fighting against.” unless the other side does it to me first and then well its game on.
Yeah, that's pretty much McCain's MO too. Like the "I'm not questioning Obama's patriotism, but his judgment." When we all know he's questioning his patriotism. ..
I guess it's okay to have a sugar-momma wife when your name is Kerry.... Seriously, wasn't this argument waged four years ago only some of you were on different sides?
It's not even that he owns so many homes. It's that he owns them and yet it's Obama that is being accused of being an elitist. The Rezko thing is concluded. Rezko has had his trial. Obama was accused of no wrong doing in the whole affair. But I think you're wrong about that being a bigger deal than McCain being out of touch with the average American. The average American doesn't relate so much to some real estate tycoon and the fact that Obama asked him about a house that he bought. The average American does understand that some guy who owns at least 7 homes but wasn't aware of that, and had an adviser tell people their problems with the economy were all in their heads, and the candidate himself telling people that the economy is fundamentally strong. I think that will resonate far more than Rezko. I admit that neither of them should be the focus of the campaigns but sadly that is what elections have become recently.
Just to be clear, Obama was accused of being an elitist because of specific comments he made, not because of how much money/assets he had. Wealth alone does not make one an elitist. It's more about a perceived attitude of superiority.
Obama needs to pivot on this and pound McCain on how he's out of touch with the middle class and a majority of America. Most people know how many houses they have.
No. But McCain should stop misleading the public by painting Obama as an elitest when he himself is far more elite. Just cause Obama can speak well, doesn't make him elite. But if you've lost track of how many houses you own ...that's pretty damn elite.
I have fallen short in the eyes of the messiah. Please do not associate my base attitude To him that shall deliver us from the criminal burning Bush.
Once again, Obama was painted as an elitist because of condescending comments he made about small-town Pennsylvanians, not because of his speaking ability. That is actually more valid than calling someone an elitist simply because they have a lot of money. If McCain has made specific comments that are condescending to the less fortunate then he would be properly labeled an elitist. I realize people are going to use the term improperly for political reasons anyway, so I don't know why I'm even bothering to explain it.
That's being generous - his real answer was even stupider. It consisted of saying the defninition of rich is "decreasing taxes but also increasing tax revenue" - which is essetially saying "I think you people are so stupid that I am going to urinate upon you and denote such urine as rain!"
