not so much... [rquoter]First, let us be clear about the nature of Senator Obama's attack today: He used the words 'losing his bearings' intentionally, a not particularly clever way of raising John McCain's age as an issue. This is typical of the Obama style of campaigning. We have all become familiar with Senator Obama's new brand of politics. First, you demand civility from your opponent, then you attack him, distort his record and send out surrogates to question his integrity. It is called hypocrisy, and it is the oldest kind of politics there is. It is important to focus on what Senator Obama is attempting to do here: He is trying desperately to delegitimize the discussion of issues that raise legitimate questions about his judgment and preparedness to be President of the United States. Through their actions and words, Senator Obama and his supporters have made clear that ANY criticism on ANY issue — from his desire to raise taxes on millions of small investors to his radical plans to sit down face-to-face with Iranian President Ahmadinejad – constitute negative, personal attacks. Senator Obama is hopeful that the media will continue to form a protective barrier around him, declaring serious limits to the questions, discussion and debate in this race. Senator Obama has good reason to think this plan will succeed, as serious journalists have written of the need for 'de-tox' to cure 'swooning' over Senator Obama, and others have admitted to losing their objectivity while with him on the campaign trail. Today, Senator Obama is complaining about comments John McCain made about a senior Hamas advisor stating that Hamas would welcome Senator Obama's election as president. Indeed, on April 13th, senior Hamas political advisor Ahmed Yousef said, 'We don't mind – actually we like Mr. Obama. We hope he will (win) the election and I do believe he is like John Kennedy, great man with great principle, and he has a vision to change America to make it in a position to lead the world community but not with domination and arrogance.' The McCain campaign has never suggested that Senator Obama supports Hamas' agenda, but it is more than fair to raise this quote about Senator Obama because it speaks to the policy implications of his judgment. Just today, the president of Iran, whom Senator Obama wants to meet with unconditionally, called the state of Israel a 'stinking corpse.' Iran is the paymaster and state sponsor of Hamas. In his victory speech this week, Senator Obama stated that 'wisdom' is meeting with our enemies, including Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, North Korea's Kim Jong Il, Venezuela's Hugo Chavez and Cuba's Raul Castro. John McCain couldn't disagree more. Rather than giving tyrants and dictators the prestige of meeting with an American president, John McCain will instead meet with the champions of human freedom around the world and opposition leaders fighting for liberty . We understand why Senator Obama doesn't want to engage in a debate over leadership and judgment with John McCain, but the American people demand that debate take place. These are serious times that call for a serious debate on the profound issues facing our future. John McCain is ready for that debate and we hope Senator Obama will one day get serious and join it.[/rquoter]
Interesting you posted this in a new thread when we had a discussion about this very topic going on here: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=148239 And I seem to recall you blasted me the other day for posting an article sans commentary. EDIT: You didn't even mention this was the official McCain response. One has to click on the link to find that out.
sure- you guys post puffington host, daily kos, and NY Times articles all the time- it's not like there's any difference.
I saw that 'losing his bearings' insult from Obama and had a similar reaction -- it's definitely code for the underhanded 'old-man' mudslinging that defines heinous politics. Once again, Obama supporters are presented with sheer and utter hypocrisy from the mouth of Obama. He says he'll rise above 'old politics', then he sinks right down BENEATH a level becoming of a presidential candidate. The guy is a fraud.
You can fight a war to end a war which you oppose. If you guys are willing to disarm, I'm sure Obama would as well. From his NC speech Tuesday: And for the record, I didn't read the "bearings" quote as having anything to do with age. I just thought he was saying McCain's crazy.
Sort of like the way McCain is misrepresenting Obama’s stance on the issue and implying that terrorists want Obama to win.
I don't think that is what was meant by the phrase. However, I have the luxury of not being a candidate for elective office (yet) so I can get a little more plain with my language. Just to be clear, do you honestly believe that age has no effect on the functioning of the memory, thought processes, and / or overall mental health and thus should not be a concern of the American people. Remember McCain, if elected, would be the OLDEST person to ascend to the President in the history of the country.
In the same statement where he mentions McCain losing his bearings, doesn't he reference a judge's "moral bearings" as well? I don't think it was "agism" (lol) at all. I think it was just the use of a commonly accepted phrase meaning "the guy is a whack job" without being so brash.
Yes, there is a difference. Unless someone forgets, they offer the link and most people remember to point out where the quoted piece is from. You hide your link in cryptic comments so that we have to mouse over it or click on it to figure out where your quoted piece came from. And I've never seen anyone else quote a campaign or a politician without noting it, as you did. Furthermore, I've never seen someone start a new thread by posting something relevant to a discussion in which they were already taking part.
I practice Agism. I won't hire an Aggie unless it is to raise some chickens or fertilize my lawn. I'm totally joking...
aside from the rest of the b.s., we've been bombarded with images of obama's preacher, and his "clinging" and "bitter" comments for over a month, but the media is protecting him. sunni/shia shia/sunni, how much did we hear about that, about the fact this guy suggest the war in iraq is for oil. basso, you better be thankful the light HAS NOT SHINED on your candidate. its gonna be u-g-l-y you ain't got no aliby
Yes that pesky liberal biased media. They are the ones that kept going on and on about Pastor Wright. Yet McCain sought Pastor Hagee's endorsement even after Hagee said Katrina was sent by God to punish NO, and stop a gay pride parade. Of course Hagee later retracted those statements, but now he's said that he was right the first time, and retracted his retraction. How much media play have those issues gotten?
Sounds familiar... McCain criticized TV preacher Jerry Falwell as “an agent of intolerance” in 2002, but has since decided to cozy up to the man who said Americans “deserved” the 9/11 attacks. Indeed, McCain has hired the debate coach from Falwell’s Liberty University, Brett O’Donnell, to advise him on his communications strategy. O’Donnell has been executing Falwell’s strategy to train scores of debaters to confront “the culture on moral default.” - Think Progress
Gawd what a load of slop that is. You list all the negative attibutes of age, how about listing the positive ones? Like experience.... something Obama lacks sorely. You can't just dismiss experience as 'the politics of Washington' like Obama so arrogantly does. Experience means you aren't learning on the job -- you are dealing with things for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th time instead of the 1st. Obama has no meaningful experience. He lacks the gravitas to take on America's toughest opponents. And he's a total hypocrite and fraud as this example so perfectly illustrates.
