In case anyone was unclear on this already, this thread demonstrates that T_J and bigtexxx have zero interest in any actual discussions on this board. Please just stop responding to them - the weeks they were gone were amongst the best quality we've had in a long time on these boards.

Let's not even compare this to the Swift Boat attacks on Kerry. No one here is attacking McCain's service. All that's being denounced here is lying. Just because McCain's lie was about his proud military service does not make the lie any more acceptable.

This has to be disturbing to McCain supporters. Of course, he's already shown his willingness to pander with the absurd gas tax holiday proposal.

That reminds of the scene in Die Hard with the two Johnsons:

Big Johnson: "Just like f---in' Saigon ain't it, Slick?"
Little Johnson: "I was in junior high, d-ckhead."

    :D

We just had 8 years of a bungling fool in the whitehouse, we don't need 4 more.

I don't see what the big deal is...at least he named a real team. That should account for something. It's not like he said the Tuscon Hornswaggles or anything.

Props to McCain for keepin' it real.

I don't see the big deal. Maybe he pandered, maybe he forgot. So what?

No, I didn't. This a different race with different players. This was the campaign where both candidates said they wanted to stick to issues rather than mud. Last time everybody, me included, was mired in the muck and we were happy as pigs. That doesn't mean we can't learn to leave the bitterness behind.

I know T_J's position on the race, and I know yours. I just think you ... you .... should set your standards higher.

Weren't some of the Swift Boaters at the same place at the same time? You can't just throw out their version of events willy-nilly.

Is it a possibility that there was more than one event. Surely the torture went on more than once...

I used to be a competitive swimmer. When I got bored with the endless training, I used to conjugate Spanish verbs in my head-- through all the tenses. I didn't use the same one and only verb each time!

he should...but he doesnt and never will. UNfortunately most people have that same kind of disposition, which is why nothing ever gets done because they are incapable of having an open, honest and fair conversation. Rather, they dig into their trench and stand pat

Not really - as previously stated there's no reason why anybody wouldd remember the utterly forgettable Steelers teams of the 1960's, especially someone who was in Pensacola Florida or overseas most of the time they were playing.

if he was at a town hall meeting and tinman asked a question he'd change it to Larry Smith and Otis Thorpe.

Obama is not part of this thread. Do you or do you not think it is OK that John McCain lied about his time as a POW?

It would be cool if he changes it to the Houston Texans if he ever gives a speech here.

Wholeheartedly disagree. McMark is not only a good guy but also his positions are reasonable. Though I often disagree with him, I do not find him unreasonable.

If McCain was offering up the entire defensive line of an NFL franchise as sacrificial lambs in the interest of protecting his squadron mates, why could they not have been the Dallas Cowboys?
