Someone mentioned Joe Johnson. Joe Johnson on this team would be like winning the championship in advance, I'd be that pumped. That said, he's on the Hawks for a while. I don't see them trading him any time soon, and certainly not prior to this upcoming season.
The only reason I mentioned Joe Johnson is because the Hawks have one of the lowest payrolls in the league and over the course of this summer and next they have to pay both of the Josh's and Marvin Williams. All three of those guys continue to improve, have sky high market values and will get big contracts. Not to mention, Al Horford in a couple years. Joe is extremely valuable to them but he could also become a cap casualty. We'll see what happens -- best of luck to them though since the Hawks are one of my favorite teams to watch. Same situation with the Bobcats. They have to pay Okafor this summer and Felton the next. They've already got J-Rich and Gerald Wallace locked in to giant longterm deals with little impact on the win/loss column. Something's gotta give there too.
Out of all the players mentioned in this thread, the only one I can see being an upgrade to our overall team would be Miller or Johnson. Other than that, the rest are way to one dimensional to make any positive impact. Redd wont help us at all. He does not change the game in any way nor helps teams win. He is a glorified chucker who plays no defense whatsoever. Vince Carter is way past his prime, and is declining fast. We already have one player that like, we dont need another
I disagree about Redd and Carter. Sure, they're both overpaid and overrated in the grand scheme of things but you still can't escape the fact that they're both superstar players. They are both players coaches gameplan their defenses around trying to stop. Now, you take a guy like that and make him your 3rd option? I'm not worried about how we would match up defensively. Look at Boston, they took two seemingly weak 2/3 players in Allen and Pierce but never lost a step defensively. Adding one of those guys allows T-Mac to slide back to his natural SF position. Start either one of those guys at the two, T-Mac at the three and bring an interchangible 2/3 defensive stopper off the bench. Not a bad rotation. Nothing against Battier since I recognize how important he is to this team and I wish we could keep him, there's just no other way to get a deal of this magnitude done. What we lose defensively we gain offensively and let everything else work itself out. I don't think we lose our defensive identity by dealing Battier.
So we're going to add a soft, mentally weak person like miller to a already soft team? Didn't we just see what finesse guys like radman and gasol got the lakers? Artest would be my option because he's tough, a matchup problem, and a little crazy. How many more times do we have to watch utah turn up the physicality and the rox only have one or 2 guys respond?
I love the idea of getting one more superstar on this team. I've been dreaming about it since we got eliminated from Dallas. I don't think we are that far away from winning the ring/going all the way if we just get that one extra piece. McGrady and Yao have a chemistry going that I just am not ready to see broken up just yet. I do however believe that if we get one more person that can honestly fit into the offence and take a load off the two guys then we are set. Arenas or Bibby or billups are the guys i'd love to see on this team. They would allow us to put in a mutombo or a Landry or a scola at center because we would still have two stars on the floor. It would allow mcgrady to rest and stay strong for the fourth where he is truly needed. I am just tired of this looking for people to fit our budget. Damn it les we did it foir brakley hakeem pippen and drexler. Just pay that extra cash and get us to the promise land. that is all we need. Raefer is good but good for our bench. I don't see Tmac as washed up or just done. I just think he needs that Kobe got with an injection of some TRUE Help. Morey go out there and don't get us a beat up francis. Get us that pg superstar NOW.
It reminds me of geting hyped on when Rockets went after Steve Francis. I thought that maybe Francis is our solution at third scorer. Ofcourse I was wrong...but comeback of Steve Francis, possible comeback ofcourse, and addition of another scorer or maybe another good draft pick is certainly giving me the signs of bright future.
Because there were no Rockets. U know it... No Yao, Alston, Battier and half injured TMac. As Clutch said season was over as soon as Yao felt down.
Redd is a fantastic shooter who also has some ability to get to the rim. He is less of "chucker" than Tmac, for sure. Redd doesn't need to be a good defender when his shot has opened up the offense so much that Yao can operate unscathed and Tmac can slice through the lane at will. Of course, him raining 3s is kinda cool too.
Who cares about a championship!!!! i just love theses funny commercials from the rockets!!!!! <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/E0G38DIl6iI&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/E0G38DIl6iI&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
He would have to be an adequate defender and I think he could fit in that role as well as a 3rd scorer since he would be relieved of being the main guy. If he turns up fit,he could be a help to us. Don't see the Bucks moving him to Houston,I could see them asking for RJ in return. Edit: I don't see us becoming a Championship team with Yao,Tracy,Redd plus Scola/Landry or another MLE player like Pietrus to replace Battier in a hypothetical unlikely trade package but it could help us get out of the 1st round. Tracy would be relieved of having to make too many shots but he would have to pick up his defense in Battier's absence despite the addition of Pietrus. Ideally I would like to get another 3rd scorer plus retain Battier as well, but we don't have the resources. I don't see much of a change in the team next year even at the trading deadline in February when we are most likely to attempt a trade with our expiring contracts.
the X factor here is that yao changes the game (at least offensively) more than any of boston's stars. he commands a double team every possession or he will score.
The Brian- After game 2, they didn't double yao and he didn't score everytime either. To the other guy, I do believe the rox have a really good d, but utah even with yao shot a very high % against the rox. Why is that?
So what is the revelation here? we need a 3rd scorer? nothing new to see here Rockets fans, we've known this for years.
