This. Check my ID? Fine, I'm okay with that. No problemo. Recording my D.O.B.? Unnecessary and invasive. A lot of creditors and such are using D.O.B. to verify identity over the phone. It's not a huge risk, but it is a risk. I think older people are so reactionary to this type of thing because older people are generally more susceptible to scams. I can't fault them for exercising a bit of caution, but she should have been more polite about it. Agreed, though you'll never convince retailers to give it up. So I just give them bogus info.
Ha. Got ID'd buying Fable 2 for Xbox at BB. Then they need my phone number... which is of course 8675309. I live at Nine One One Sixteenth Ave Off The Farmes Boulevard. Boulevard. Boulevard. Deadpanned... I amuse myself.
It's not unusual for alcohol. Shoot, where I live in Arizona, you have to show your damn papers now. I'm glad the feds are suing us.
<br> This is ridiculous. It has nothing to with any of that. I work as a cashier and the only reason they do it is to make sure you don't mess up while ID'ing. It's your birth date for lord's sake. If you pay in cash they don't even have your name. If you're paying with a credit card and complaining about being ID'd because of possible "invasion of privacy" or whatnot then you have some major issues...
I get carded for alcohol probably 75% of the time when I purchase it at a Grocery Store. 25% at a liquor store.
I don't mind it when they key in my birthday. It's bothersome when they swipe my ID, as if this world is filled with hopelessness and every cashier has the negative intentions of selling to minors.
they carded my g/f the other day at Olive Garden...it was in the car, but no biggie, I just went to get it, no drama or anything...lol... Everyone gets carded going to bars/clubs, but I usually get carded at grocery stores...it use to make me feel good like hey, I look young...I would tend to think women feel good about this more...but now I realize its only because they have too check ID's..lol...
Entering the birth date in the register does two things. First, it calculates the age for the cashier so that even if they are not good at math they still accurately get the customer's age. Secondly, the birthdates inputted in are monitored so that management can see which cashier's are either not inputting the date or "faking" the date which might mean they are selling to minors. Also, cashiers are personally liable in the eyes of the law. So even though the store can be punished by losing their license or being fined, the cashier can be personally fined and arrested. As for carding a group, the same conditions apply. Cashiers must make a judgment call that if this person is buying for a group of minors. So before you chew their head off about carding, remember this cashier is what stands in front of your precious sixteen year old son or daughter from having a kegger while you are spending their college tuition on vacation.
I rarely get carded anymore. At the liquor store, the wine store, restaurants, etc. The only time I get carded for real are at crappy bars with a bouncer.
I always have my I.D. ready. I always think people think i'm an alcoholic for buying a big case of beer.
