Went to Randall's on Monday afternoon to pick up a few things for a get together at a friends house. One of the items was O'Douls non alcoholic beer for a pregnant friend. I got carded for the O'Douls, cashier said the register prompted her to ask for ID.
she was about 33 at the time. ordinarily, she might have been....i think he knew she wasn't a teenager but just wanted to get a closer look, honestly. i can't blame him, but as i recall, she was in a hurry and didn't really appreciate it.
LOL. lady is crazy. It's all part of the store's policy. Once in Saudi, I had to show my ID to an employee to enter the "game room" and the dude took it saying it wasn't me. wouldn't give it back....I started throwing a stupid verbal assualt on him...then just grabbed one of the security guards to ended up yelling at him to give my ID back. Aramco ID's are quite cost a lot if you lose em..... I know...CSB.
I work tech support. One, thing I have figured out is . . . alot older folx are paranoid. Esp about anything computerized. I have heard anything from someone hacked their computers to block pogo. To wondering if by answering the phone I was already in their computer. They tend to not be able to seperate the computer crap on TV from real life things. I understand it to an extent but . . . this reaction is par to the course. I mean seriously . . . Watch enough day time TV and things like LIFELOCK commercials you will think everyone is stealing your identity We have created a society of paranoids Just about everything on TV is either trying to bribe you into buying something or scare you into buying it. Rocket River BTW - depends on who is asking for the ID
I work at Target as a cashier and they make us ask for the ID no matter the age. When the manager is around and I have to ask I always let out a sigh, because I don't know how many times I've gotten yelled at. The only thing I can do is apologize and tell them that's Target's policy. One lady actually called me a liar and then proceeded to try to insult my intelligence because I work there. I gritted my teeth and just walked away. It's one thing to work and see most your check go to school, but to be belittled by some updy b**** is really unbearable.
Being older than it should take to keep from getting carded, I never mind that, though I see no reason why it should be entered into a computer. Just check the freakin' ID and move on. Obviously people are and should be concerned how and where their personal information is harvested and distributed in this day and age. I find it increasingly irritating how much personal information it takes to make a simple purchase in more and more places these days.
Why do you "apologize" if it's a policy? Just say "It's our policy, sir [or madam]" and continue about your business. I don't understand why people feel bad about a rule that they should follow.
I only apologize to the older ladies since they seem to be the ones that always lose their s*** and always make a comment about how it's ridiculous and this and that and I just to diffuse it. The one time I did just say it's the policy I got tongue lashed and me not able to say anything back is really hard.
You should use some humor... I would probably say something like... "Well, you looked so young to me, madam! " then wink...
I actually thought about this and been like ok time to pull on the charm and I swear to God this always pops up in my head. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/T2KtdnejOHo&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/T2KtdnejOHo&hl=en_US&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Damn, all this time I thought it was because of my boyish good looks. I always assumed it was so that if something happened and the store got sued, they could go back and prove that they checked the I.D.
I think its just something the store tries to do to make sure you look at the ID, not that most people actually put in your birthdate. No telling for sure. It definitely shouldn't bother people.
They should have bouncers work cashiers. No one will ever second guess or complain about having to show ID. Also I have never been ID'd before. Given that I've only bought cigs in the past, never alcohol... and it was the gas station. I looked much younger than I was at 18 years of age, but never got carded. Does this only apply to alcohol and at the grocery stores?
I always appreciate it when they check my ID when it comes to using a credit card/debit card just because it says CHECK ID on the back. Just seems like they are paying attention when they ask. My mother's card was stolen once by a Wal-Mart cashier and when the cashier used the card later on in the store no one bothered to check the ID at all! Have you guys never been to a gas station where the register says, "HEY! Check that ID!" and then you have to wait for them to enter the date into the register. I am guessing most cashier's just enter a date and move along, but I still don't see how entering your birth date into a machine somewhere if you aren't using a credit card or debit card is a hassle. By using your CC and DC you are automatically giving the store all the information to begin with, even with a check. If you pay cold hard cash then your birth date is just a random name not associated with you. She was crazy and I couldn't help but laugh at her.
