I just wanted to know that if we had Hakeem Olajowon for such a long time (more than 3 years obviously) why cant we do something like we did for Charles Barkley (the sign for 9 mil) without affecting our cap? ------------------
It doesn't not affect the cap. When you are over the cap, which we have been for years, you can resign your own free agents, such as Dream or Barkley, to whatever you want, disregarding the cap. The money still counts on the cap; however, you are allowed by the Collective Bargaining Agreement to go over. To go under the cap and sign Mo Taylor, Chris Webber, or other role players, we must renounce our rights to Hakeem. Resigning Barkley to a big deal didn't matter, because we were over the cap anyway. However, with this being a summer that we have a lot of cap room to offer free agents such as Mo Taylor, Marc Jackson, etc., we must give up Hakeem's rights and his salary to free the salary space. ------------------ EDDIE, EDDIE, EDDIE!!! ...or resign Hakeem at a vastly smaller price than what he is making now, which is y we don't think he will be w/ us b/c if he is asking for 10 mil b/c of Cato's contract, then he isn't taking one for the team and is putting his interests above the Rockets and will probably be renounced. ------------------
