Nah, I think I will leave them right here where they belong, in a thread that is talking about the subject that she is offended by and pointing out the cultural flaws with, thanks for the advice though. No, we care that people have the right to free speech, and the right to offend Muslims without getting threatened for doing so. I understand you are offended, that is fine, but I don't see you saying you are going to go out and kill someone about it, right? And I can respect that you don't like it, and voice your opinion about not liking it....but you also need to respect others that don't share your dislike and think pointing out the Extremist views of some is important. If you think people that draw these cartoons get what they deserve by being threatened, as Mathloom has stated, then that in itself is a problem in a free society. DD
http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2010/05/19/facebook-fracas-breaks-everybody-draw-mohammad-day/ [rquoter]But they won't be celebrating in Pakistan, where a court on Wednesday ordered the government to block Facebook pages associated with the campaign until May 31. Muslims consider any depiction of the Prophet Muhammad to be blasphemous, and it is a crime punishable by death.[/rquoter] Muslim members, how inaccurate is the above paragraph in this Fox News article?

Nobody ever said they aren't allowed to draw. Why do you continue to bring this up? Is it because you have nothing else to argue against? Just way to boost post count? Select quoting is the just the same as playing denial.
That's cute. But what does this have to do with the issue at hand? No one has claimed that right. No one is claiming that the cartoonist doesn't have the right. What are you on about? I've learned something in this thread. It's that some believe in God, and some don't, but everyone has a religion which they believe is perfect.
LOL This woman has made a startling amount of money by either intentionally or unintentionally blaming her ex-religion for her ex-country's barbaric traditions. I didn't know about female genital mutilation until a couple of years ago and I've only lived in 'Muslim' countries. It doesn't really exist anywhere except in pre-Islamic Arabia/Eastern Africa. Here for example: These are all lies from her parents/teachers. Lies lies lies. Just for the sake of showing you how wrong she is, here are verses rejecting her claims and the claims of those who say he is infallible, can tell the future, etc: "O Prophet! Why holdest thou to be forbidden that which Allah has made lawful to thee? Thou seekest to please thy consorts. But Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." 66:1 "Say (O Muhammad), "I am not different from other messengers. I have no idea what will happen to me or to you. I only follow what is revealed to me. I am no more than a profound warner" 46:9 "Say (O Muhammad), "Whether God decides to annihilate me and those with me, or to shower us with mercy, who is there to protect the disbelievers from a painful retribution?" 67:28 "Say (O Muhammad), "I do not say to you that I possess the treasures of God. Nor do I know the future. Nor do I say to you that I am an angel. I simply follow what is revealed to me." Say, "Is the blind the same as the seer? Do you not reflect?" 6:50 "Say (O Muhammad), "No one in the heavens and the earth knows the future except God. They do not even perceive how or when they will be resurrected." 27:65 "The people ask you (O Muhammad) about the Hour (end of the world). Say, "The knowledge thereof is only with God. For all that you know, the Hour may be close." 33:63 I don't blame her... her circumstances meant that she had to act and think quick and I'm sure she had/has good intentions. I feel terrible about the environment she grew up in. I remember reading part of her book, I felt extremely extremely depressed for a while thinking about what she faced, how she was treated, how she was raised, etc. Proffessionally speaking though, if she wants to be have some sort of credibility.. If she's trying to reach out to people, she has to either: (1) tell the truth or (2) kinda know what's in the Quran. Seems they lied to her. Seems she bought it. Seems she never bothered to check. At some point though I have to draw the line and say she's a grown-ass educated woman, so she needs to establish some sort of credibility for her viewpoints. At this point in time, she is either insanely misinformed or not telling the truth. Whichever of those two it is, it saddens me that her misinformation unintentionally/intentionally feeds the hatred/bigotry of some of her readers and it just creates a chain of misinformation and hatred. What a terrible cycle honestly. I agree with her though that it's strange people are more offended by the cartoon than by terrorism. The cartoons seems to be a way too popular topic, all over the world.
except it's completely irrelevant because there is no one here arguing you shouldn't have the right to draw your cartoon.
But Mathloom and others say you should live in fear if you do draw it. Which is sort of why people should draw it if they feel inclined. Sound and Fury signify, what? Again? DD
Apparently he looks like a cartoon. Here is what started this whole thing: <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/igDRyJgES2E&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/igDRyJgES2E&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> Is that really offensive enough to kill or threaten to kill people over? REALLY? DD
I have not read every bloody post in this thread and I have no intention of doing so. Seriously, what else needs to be said or considered in relation to this topic?
http://www.mollynorris.com/ I did NOT 'declare' May 20 to be "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day." I made a cartoon about the television show South Park being censored. (I wish that was what our energies were going toward -- protesting revolutionmuslim.com's threat to Comedy Central, and Comedy Central's over reaction to it which set America on a slippery slope toward censorship!) At any rate, my satirical poster, with a fake 'group' behind it (Citizens Against Citizens Against Humor) was taken seriously, hijacked and made viral. I never started a facebook page; I never set up any place for pepole to send drawings to and I never recieved any drawings (I see that two European graduate students and another woman started the facebook pages). My one-off cartoon does not work well as a long-term plan. The vitriol this 'day' has brought out, of people who only want to draw obscene images, is offensive to Muslims who did nothing to endanger our right to expression in the first place. Only Viacom and Revolution Muslim are to blame, so...draw them instead! I apologize to people of Muslim faith and ask that this 'day' be called off. Thank you to those who are turning this crazy thing into an opportunity for dialogue. Oh, and screw all of you who are mad at me for not leading a 'movement'. My cartoon was the beginning and end of what I had to say about this creepy, historic censorship. (By the way, where is Cowardly Central now? Pretty dang quiet. Guess they can dish it out but can't take it.) Sincerely, Molly P.S. The nicest email I have received have been from Muslims. (I regret going on the Dave Ross radio show on April 25th, before my cartoon went viral; my ego took me there. It was a mistake to go there when I wasn't clear about things. I let myself get side-swiped. Crap!) "My cartoon was the beginning and end of expressing my personal views about Comedy Central's South Park censorship. If I had wanted my one-off cartoon to be the basis for a worldwide movement to draw Mohammed, then at this moment I should be thrilled," Norris tells Comic Riffs today. "But instead I am horrified! My one-off cartoon that was specifically about Comedy Central's behaviour vs. Revolution Muslim's threat leading to a slippery slope of censorship in America is not good for a long-term plan. The results have shown to be vitriolic and worse, offensive to Muslims who had nothing to do with the censorship issue I was inspired to draw about in the first place." Molly
Cowering in fear of retribution no doubt. All kidding aside she touched a nerve, so I guess some people think it is more than she does. DD
LOOOOOOOL! Simultaneously racist and silly. Sweet. First and foremost (and I have to say how stereotype-American of you it is that you didn't consider this) Arabs and Muslims speak far far far more languages than the Portugese. Plus, the literacy rate was normalized closer to the revolution of, oh ummm, reading things online. I'm sure you are oblivious to the concept of being multi-lingual, but the number of books translated into Arabic is barely related to how many books Arabs read. I am Arab, speak Arabic, and read Arabic but have never read an Arabic book. That doesn't mean I don't receive information, it simply means I'm more fluent with English and therefore read in English. Arab =/= Muslim. Muslims are about 20% Arab. Your sentence switched conveniently into "Muslim" to paint that "1 billion of them are like this!!!" picture. Turkish, American, Indonesian, Indian Pakistani, etc people don't necessarily speak Arabic. Really Dada, for that typo/error/whatever, you should be embarrassed. ALSO... Arabic varies greatly between Arab countries. I, again, don't expect you to understand this. It is not the same as the difference in English between England, Australia and America. No. I was in Morocco a couple of years ago and had to speak French, rather than Arabic, in order to communicate easily. Also, no Arab country in the world speaks classical Arabic (which is the only written form of Arabic). Finally, Portugal is a develop country + economy. The average Arab/Muslim/whateveryoumeant coountry + economy is not. That's a poor comparison. I think to sum this whole up, I can cut it down to: www.amazon.com Despite the horrendous condition of the education system in the Arab + Muslim world, this is a major book-reading culture and nothing changes that. Literature is one of the few things good about Arab culture's influence on Islam. It loves writing/reading books. This was an absolutely ridiculous statement from you. The amount of ignorance in it was robust and multi-dimensional. I can't explain how sad I am that you think this way but glad that you exercised your free speech.
Not a statement from me at all, just posting a little blurb from the Dennis Miller show. Are you refuting his statement? If you wish to debate upon the average education levels of most Muslim countries, that would be interesting, but it is the wrong thread to do it. DD
