Just want to say the the above sentence is not an opinion or fact, and is completely false. Example: intolerance of violence is not the enemy of peace. I understand your point, but framing the issue broadly and erroneously gives the impression that anyone with a new or different idea is the enemy of peace. Fact of the matter is, peace can be achieved in a multitude of different ways and free speech has been implemented in a variety of ways the world over - there will undoubtedly be new ideas and new opinions all the time. Another example, intolerance of intolerance is intolerant. That doesn't necessarily make it an enemy of peace.
see, some of you get your panties in a wad over some relatively benign posts calling your stance r****ded or idiotic, yet have no problem offending millions of non-extremist muslims to make some point that's not going to be heard. hilarious. and sjc is right. i do get bitter and frustrated by bigotry (offending muslims just to offend them) or stupidity (thinking this issue is anything other than an excuse to offend muslims). sorry!
See the difference is that no one here threatened you with violence even though you used such rude language. You placator !! Lol DD
and neither did millions of non-muslims who will be offended because some people just want to make a point that they can offend people. it's stupid, hurtful and serves no purpose at all. i will defend your right to offend, but will also call you an ******* for doing it.
I don't understand why it's offensive to draw an image of Mohammed, when you see images of Jesus, Buddha, and all kinds of religious figures. I'm so *****ing old....the older you get the more out of touch and irrelevant you get....sigh
i don't agree with their beliefs on this, but from what i understand, it was banned so that people would not worship him instead of g-d (out of respect for my jewish brother...that is something i also just learned recently).
Call me what you will, but I ain't drawing the cartoons, just defending their right to do it. For the record, you have called people in this thread: Idiots Assholes Dicks r****ded and you wonder why you got banned from the D&D.....lol....what next? DD
I don't think anyone's saying they don't have the right to do it (and if they are, they are wrong... first amendment and whatnot). The question is whether there is any good reason to do so other than to deliberately offend potentially a quarter of the planet.
AND you're also accusing anyone who calls these cartoonists idiots to be on the extremists' side. Don't believe me? Read over your own posts. All those grand (and empty) speeches about people not standing up to intolerance and extremists
I believe you are just a bit overly sensitive. I am saying that we need to stand up to those extremists, but in all honesty the Muslim community is the only one that can make a difference. The Christian religion had it's extremist days too...the Spanish Inquisition, the Pope ordering the murder of the Cathers......this is Islam's middle ages, it is only about 1300 years old, so maybe it needs the moderates to grab back control from the Extremists that are bastardizing it for their own benefit. DD
Sensitive about what? Oh and you went on your little random speech spree for the rest of your post again. Nobody ever said violence is okay and we shouldn't stand up to those extremists. This entire thread you've been debating against ideas and posts that don't exist on this board
the whole "right to" thing is confusing in this thread. there is zero question you have a right to draw Mohammed, and no one in this thread is arguing otherwise. it's not a matter of whether you could do it...it's whether you should do it, that we're discussing.
doesn't bother you in the slightest that you'd be offending those people? it's more important that you teach everyone your lesson? If you want to live in peace you have to accept that others don't believe as you, nor care to....
Great, so it is ok with you that people draw cartoon pictures of Mohammed then. Even if you don't like it, you believe they should be able to do it and not be threatened with violence, right? I am not the one drawing a cartoon Max, I am defening people's right to do it and not face a violent rebuttal, regardless of whether it is offensive or not. As for your 2nd statement, I agree, we have to tolerate others beliefs EVEN if they are offensive to ourselves. DD
do you seriously not see the whole "pot/kettle" thing right here in your post??? really????? obviously you're not advocating violence...but you're advocating going out and offending huge groups of people to hit a small minority with your lesson.....and then talking about intolerance being the enemy of peace in the very same post??
