What? Contest what exactly? That there are idiots in every religion? Sorry, going to have to agree with you there. Islam just happens to be the one that has the most problems right now.... DD
First of all, the pseudo-dramatic background music in this video is really annoying. So - what's your point? That that particular journalist displays an inconsistency in his approach to free speech? You could arguably say that, but a fair point could be made that denouncing the holocaust when direct descendants of holocaust victims are still alive is a much stronger form of hate speech than drawing a cartoon of some figure that lived many centuries ago. And then you look at the disparity in the reaction of people (139 deaths, several burned down embassies because of a freaking cartoon vs. no deaths and no crazy outrage because of someone denouncing the holocaust) and the perceived inconsistency in the reaction of the journalist pales in comparison to that. And it is ridiculous how this video tries to deflect blame for the hate demos by some Islamo-fascists on the media. These hateful demos actually happened. I'm sure someone could also find a bunch of videos saying that Bush blew up the twin towers and that all jews were evacuated beforehand etc. (widespread rumor in the Arab world, I heard). I can see how it must be frustrating for a moderate, peaceful person to be associated with these idiots, though. The blame for this cannot be entirely on the media, though - they are not making this up, it is actually happening. You should be angry at these idiots, not at the media.
All idiots have access to weapons these days.....technology has made it easy for cowards to kill a large number of people....and then run and hide .... DD
The problem is not just access to weapons, it is a myriad of reasons: it is the unregulated access to weapons, it is government corruption and inability of these corrupt despotic regimes to meet social needs, it is tyranny and restriction of basic human freedoms, it is client regimes and the facilitation of foreign interference into the lives of people from the region, it is the overwhelming sense that traditional beliefs and customs are under assault, it is corrupt scholars and tribalism, and it is much more than all of that. The current condition of the Middle East is the result of a perfect storm of events in the 20th century (domestic and foreign) which all criss-crossed and conspired to bring the region to its knees. The origin of these problems were internal, but soon internal problems led to weakness, and made the region easy prey for foreigners, who obviously have their own agendas and could not care less about the people in the region. These local and global conditions have changed people, it made them touchy, nervous, conspiratorial and willing to lash out at almost everything and everyone, be it a real or perceived slight.
What I said. It's cool to do this to Muslims, but not to Jews. The Holocaust should not change how we think today. If it did, then how come the Crusades don't?
Well there is a little matter of about 1000 years.......I mean no one can remember the Crusades, and there is not any motion pictures to remind us. Come on, you can't be real with that question. The Holocaust has so many reminders, it will also fade with time...same as the Crusades, or the Catholic church killing the Cathers, or the Spanish Inquisition, slavery, etc..etc..etc... Things lighten in perspective over time. DD
Morality is not universal, is it, each person sets their own standards. Forcing a particular version of morality onto other people is one of the root causes of all these problems. I mean has Turkey recognized the genocide of the Armenian people yet? DD
Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of "even if at some super distant future the holocaust becomes a less sensitive subject, we should remember that ethnic cleansing is super evil." So I'm not talking about forcing. I'm just talking about each nation/person learning from past experiences to make better decisions in the future. No need to flip out. lol
I never flip out, just pointing out that time does heal wounds, unless you are in the middle east apparently. Where a grudge can last for centuries. DD
Yes DaDakota, every negative quality found in the dictionary applies to us. It makes sense. Thanks for the helpful insight!
Not sure what you are referencing, there is a lot of turmoil in the Middle East, isn't that why Turkey has so desperatly tried to position themselves as European for all these years? DD
It could be that Turkey is situated quite closely to Europe. Greece is right there as well and has membership into the EU.
