As I said in my post, Webber is a very talented and skillful player, but he is no leader/winner. He wasn't the leader on the Warriors, Chris Mullin was; he wasn't the leader for the Bullets, they traded him away for an over-the-hill Richmond; what's the difference he makes for the Kings? The Kings are a very good offensive team with or without him.

We are not talking about whether Webber is a good player, but a leader/winner who the franchise can rely on to carry them night-in and night-out. That was the knock when he was with the Warriors, that was the same issue with the Bullets. Now I don't see him carrying the Kings to the title.

My initail response was to the proposal that the Rockets can trade Francis for Webber based on the assumption that Webber will be able to be the LEADER to carry them. My answer is NO, he is not that kind of player the Rockets are looking for. He might be better than Francis stats wise, but still not a franchise player.

    daoshi,

On every team Webber has been on, he has made that team better. And even more, when he has left, that team has gotten worse. In terms of the Kings, he is the best player on arguably the best team in the NBA. Doesn't that count for something. Maybe he is not a player like Shaq or Duncan who can single-handedly carry his team to a championship but who else is?? To say that Steve Francis is more of a franchise player but has never played a playoff minute is ridiculous.

Jason Kidd is a heady point guard. John Stockton and Mark Jackson have proven that heady point guards can play at a reasonably high level well into their late 30s. Jason is less than four years older than Francis, and since he doesn't rely as much on his athleticism, will probably be productive longer. I would rather have the superior player for five years than the inferior one for seven.

I can't believe you would denigrate Jason Kidd for only winning two finals games when the player you are claiming is better has never even gone to the playoffs. Get a clue.

Completely agree. Both the Warriors and Bullets were practically doormats until Webber got there. And not until last year did the Warriors ever have any real success after Webber left. A year after Webber left GS, Don Nelson was fired anyway, so how can all the blame be put on Webb? Then, Webb comes to a Kings team that was only known for losing and turns them into a title contender. Fact, every team CWebb has played on has had much more success with than without him. Comparing CWebb's NBA success and leadership abilities with Steve's should pretty much be a quick debate.

Kobe for SF3+a throw-in, it will be a heartbeat and the biggest trade in 2003/2004 season.
