My guess: Morey would not have declined Parsons' option unless he was 100% certain that the team would bring back Parsons. A big part of the reason why for paying Parsons early is that the team has a chance of losing him next year if he becomes unrestricted. So, if Morey thought there is also a risk even as a restricted FA, why bother declining the option instead of just enjoying a cheap Parsons for one more season? I don't think this means that Morey thinks that there is a chance Parsons would not take the best offer on the market-- Parsons is too smart and too business-minded for that. I think it means that Morey is prepared to match or exceed (via the additional year allowed in the CBA for Bird Right free agents) all outside contract offers. Yes, this means that Morey is willing to pay even "the max." Remember, Morey has seen the economists' projections of the NBA's income-- which is expected to go up rapidly, taking the cap up with it especially after the league's national TV deal is up. So, a "max" locked in this year will be lower than the "max" signed next year. Paying Parsons a few million dollars extra won't be a huge deal in a environment with a rising cap. This, by the way, is the same reason why teams are signing the likes of Darren Collison, Jodie Meeks and Avery Bradley to good-sized contracts.
How much can the Mavs even offer Parsons? They've traded for Chandler, and re-signed both Dirk and Devin Harris. Has anyone been tracking their salaries?
Just remember...Dallas can OFFER a deal to Parsons. Parsons doesn't have to ACCEPT right away. He can......stall. (and then re-sign with Houston)
Important to note that Carters cap hold is probably more than what he signs for back with Dallas. If they can resign him at the vet min, it actually opens up more cap space to sign Parsons to a slightly bigger deal. No shock if they sign him before officially extending an offer.
This has to be right. No way Morey allows Chandler to walk for nothing. He's either matching or doing a sign and trade.
Rockets have until at least the 13th to make a move. Cap number won't go up until we match the offer sheet.
Parsons will take the money on the offer sheet if it's good. Dallas has a good organization and a great coach. Dirk likes him. It's a good fit. Morey will have to match.

This shows that parsons is not interested in a offer sheet at the moment...it's obvious he wants to come back...he better not even answer the phone for the mavs
Cuban is childish and spiteful. He is the kind of person that will overpay Parsons and screw his team up just to screw the other team (Rockets) that he hates. I am hoping this works to our advantage and we dont end up giving a massive contract to Bosh.
