We Houston fans can't get TOO cocky about that. We're only 1 season removed from misguided mediocrity. The Dallas title team didnt really have much consistent identity really, not like those earlier Mavs teams. It was a similar approach of "name" players brought in like Peja Stojakovic, Caron Butler, etc. Maybe Cuban still feels confident some reason that he can patch in players like that.
They won because Dirk played out of his mind good, while Chandler singlehandly made them a very good defensive team (Like Asik 2.0 for us this year). This team doesn't have any of that. Dirk is older, Dalembert =/= Chandler, and while Monta believes he got it all, he doesn't. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/7G9yS2-x5sA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
if dirk stays healthy, they might get the seventh or eighth seed. The lakers are going to the lottery and denver will fall too.
ITs crazy how many teams are pushing to make the playoffs in the West. Besides Phoenix, Utah, Sacremento, and New Orleans, seems like every team is pushing to make it.
As somebody that's followed Blair closely since his college days, I love this signing both for him and for Dallas. Blair struggles on defense due to his lack of size, but arguably his biggest impediment as a player is his inability to space the floor next to a traditional post-up PF. Dirk is obviously anything but that. With Dirk operating mainly from the perimeter and mid-range, Blair should have ample space to do what he always does: rebound and out-muscle players inside. He's a great hustle player with a good attitude.
A healthy motivated Dirk is good enough to get the Mavs to the playoffs. I see them getting the 6th or 7th seed.
Looks like Cuban is gearing up to play hack-a-Dwight You just know he's still butthurt for missing out on Dwight... or anyone else of significance, lol
