Man that is a GREAT trade for the Mavs. Somehow they got two Jamisons and an extra Nowitzki! ;)

Well this has got to piss off Speedy Claxton. The reason he left the Spurs was to get the chance to play starters minutes and now they go and sign NVE.

If this goes through it's yet another notch in the Cuban/Nelsons belts:

In the past couple of years they would have essentially turned Hubert Davis, Courtney Alexander, Christian Laettner, and Etan Thomas into Antawn Jamison, Raef Lafrentz, Danny Fortson, and Jiri Welsch.

Davis, Alexander, Laettner, & Thomas for Juwan Howard

Howard, Donnell Harvey, and FA Tim Hardaway for Nick Van Exel, Avery Johnson and Raef Lafrentz

Van Excel, Johnson (doesn't play), Eschmeyer (doesn't play), Popeye Jones (doesn't play) for Jamison, Fortson, Welsch, and Mills.

    Amazing.

Hmmm.. makes you think that Avery might be available now, or in what, 9 weeks.. don't know the legal wrangling that goes on with players being moved multiple times.. but I really think that, with Claxton and NVE on the Warriors, AJ is never going to get off the bench.. I know he doesn't have a lot left in the tank, but he can still get it done for 12-15 minutes a game, and what a character guy to have in the locker room!

What are the details of his contract? Is it possible that GS may even cut him loose?

I REALLY think the Rockets would be a better team with AJ around, not necessarily because of on-the-court stuff, but just because of who he is and how he conducts himself.. and surely he would come cheap? And there's no doubt he could teach SF a few things about being a better 'assist man'..

Does anyone know if it is even possible to acquire him after being moved to GS like that?

Yah, I'm so sure NVE is going to give up 11 mill a year to vie for cap leftovers or the mce.

Maybe he can sign up to be the backup pg for the lakers, they seem to get good players for cheap.

Don't forget that NVE's knees are almost shot.

Antawn has his best season as a pf, but he's lightweight at 223.
Dirk can play the three, as there's not a lot of great 3's in the west to get him fouled up. Jamison needs room to use his step; Dallas has threats everywhere, that should give him room.

Still can't go in on Duncan. Shaq will kill him. Malone can't wait to hit him with a clothesline.

They are playing for next year as this is equivalent to throwing in the towel. They are dumping salary in order to retool now that Arenas has left but you're right about their getting hosed on this trade. In the NBA you NEVER EVER trade big for small and that's just what they did. This deal makes the Mavs bigger and better defensively. How much only time will tell...

This had better work out for Dallas who still has a hole at the 5 because they (Mavs) are now hamstrung with the salary cap for years to come after picking up those contracts.

AJ's days as a player are done. He was a throw in on this deal for cap reasons. He wants to be a coach and wouldn't help the Rockets all that much. As for SF, look at it this way if he didn't listen to Rudy T and he won't listen to JVG, why do you believe that he would listen to AJ?

Kinda makes CD and Uncle Les look even more inept at getting talent in here than they already do...although they have set the bar quite low.

BTW, I'd change this to: Eschmeyer (can't play), Popeye Jones (unable to play). Eschmeyer is an even bigger stiff than Shawn Bradley and that takes doing! Popeye is finished as a player - his back is simply too bad.

Remember what Murphy said: It's MORALLY wrong to allow suckers to keep their money. In this case, it's MORALLY wrong not to take advantage of a sucker (GS).

Hmm, I wonder what slogan they plan to use to get fans to even bother to show up for their games this year...

I think its time we get another player... a nice player... we probably wont get out of the first round.. this year their is no excuse for not making the playoffs... plz dont come out with the same lame excuse... its a young team blah blah blah.. the been together for a while... not its time for some playoff taste since houston hasnt had any in 5 years... i think or maybe its 4... whatever... NO EXCUSE ROCKETS

NVE was not a happy camper in Denver...his last stop on a losing team.

He may not command 11 million on the open market but he would command far more than the MLE. Good point guards are rare in this league and there is a lot of demand out there for NVE.

Now lets not overrate NVE... You know he is money hungry just like almost every basketball player is..... NVE is a good point guard.. and if had a chance to get him that would be great... but the problem with nve sometimes is that he takes to many shots.. its almost like stevie franchise... just my opinion.....

Well, we lost all of our games against them last year anyway. Shouldn't impact our record. But god damn. The West is sick.

The only reason we didnt beat them is becuz our offense sux... and we would be lazy on defense after a while... hopefully this year it would be different... i got to agree though the west is mest up now..... But hey at least we know if the rockets went to the east it would makes us one of the top teams... Dam imagine if were just one conference.. like no eastern and western.. but just National... only the west would make it... about only 2 east teams would make it.

If it's true that NVE can opt out after the 2003-2004 year, I wouldn't be surprised if he took a big pay cut and went back to Dallas the next year to try and win a ring. He loved playing there.

I can't believe the Warriors scored Avery Johnson and Popeye! Golden State finally has all the pieces in place-- the road to the ring goes through the Warriors.

that's right, and the 5 mil they save this year is just the beginning.

by my count, GSW moves 103 million and takes back 56 million.

this deal is all about money and saving it for GSW. A transfer of liability from GSW to Dallas is the primary consideration, and the reason Dallas gets talent cheap. They will pay for it dearly when the luxury tax is paid.

this is like one guy taking on another guy's debt, and getting some of his best assets for doing so.

If it's for salary dump and rebuiding, trading away your best player for a 31 yr old pg plus scrubs won't cut it. Should've traded for young prospects and picks. GSW is a joke. Their organization is run by clowns.

Oh man I feel lucky being a Rockets fan. Poor man Swopa. :(
