Well in hindsight, not picking up the final year of his rookie contract sure looks silly now. Here's what I think:

Scenario 1: Bosh signs, we will match Mavs(Les says he's willing to spend if we have a legit shot at winning it all)

Scenario 2: Bosh doesn't sign, we will keep Lin (pointless to give up assets to create cap room we don't need now, and will be an asset at trade deadline). We won't match, Parsons is not worth 15mil/year. Hold out and wait for chance at KD next season.

I can't see a scenario where Bosh doesn't sign but we still match the offer sheet, because Morey is not dumb enough to ever overpay for a contract. Essentially it's like signing Lin to a 3 year deal of his final year of his contract, whereby people were already up in arms with his 5/5/15 contract. And honestly, he doesn't give that much more production at the 3 than Lin at the 1.

So, Bosh will finally make his own decision rather than wait on LeBron?

Not necessarily... why tie up our cap situation when another team would for three days?

Dirk, Howard and Harden would be best trio in the league. Sadly no chance it happens.

They would still have his bird rights, if I am not mistaken.

We could have shat on him and kept him for less than $1,000,000, but let him free. He's coming back.

Anyone who knows how the cap/rights works will have the same opinion.

    This is worst case scenario.

Parsons still would have gotten his money.

He ****ed us, plain and simple.

not at all, withdrawing the qo would mean parsons becomes an unrestricted free agent.

I'm pretty sure Tyson Chandler holds the title as the Mavericks' highest paid player of 2014-15. Parsons would be #2. And oddly enough, Nowitzki finds himself at #3. In fact, he should be #4 behind Brendan Haywood who is still receiving his amnesty checks from Mark Cuban.

Anyway, I don't see what Luol Deng has to do with Parsons. If the Rockets sign Bosh, they would not be able to sign or trade for Deng at all. It's just not possible. Deng seems like the backup plan to Bosh, not Parsons.

So what exactly will the Rockets do to replace Parsons? Once Bosh signs with Houston, the Rockets won't have the cap room to find a starting small forward. The team has only two options at this point: Overpay to keep Parsons, or let him walk away with no possibility of an outside replacement. There are no other options. The Rockets absolutely must keep Parsons, even if it means grossly overpaying him.

It's looking like Morey totally miscalculated in declining the team option on Parsons' contract. If the Rockets are doomed to pay Parsons a max contract anyway, they might as well have done it in 2015 rather than 2014. The whole idea of letting him become a restricted free agent was to avoid overpaying him. All he has accomplished now is overpay him one year too early.

Is it wishful thinking that Rockets plan to match this, and simply got Parsons to sign it to tie up Mavs cap room and take them out of contention for the rest of the free agents?

Morey track record has been miserable ever since the Harden trade (well Dwight fell on his lap). No good bench player picked up last year. Declining Parson's $1M/year option just to pay him $15M/year. All the Melo ass-kicking for nada, except for the Jeremy Lin jersey PR blunder. And he want Ariza back?

If Dirk signed here Morey's legend would only grow. I'm pretty sure Dirk agreed to a lowball contract with the Mavs a few days ago though.

Why are some saying we should match and then trade him later (some even mentioning a 3rd star lol)?
Are you insane, no one will touch that contract, that is poison.
And no, you canĀ“t blame CP, he is an average player, extremely overrated on this board, but he is going after the money as he should because knew someone would offer the max.

I'm not arguing it isn't worse for us.

I'm arguing that Parsons owes us nothing.

He would have gotten his money? You have ZERO ability to know that.

So do we wait until the third day to match? Do we even match? Can we sign and trade him?
