You are the one who does not get it. I never even talked about whether game is on or not and whether "white boy" is a racist remark or not (I don't think so, but I agree with ktheintz that there is an asymmetry, but I think it is fine that there is one). I also never said anything about whether the USA have a better or worse way of dealing with racism than other countries. I just pointed out that your post where you generalize and stereotype other countries was incredibly stupid. Do I really need to explain why? First of all, you are not even able to distinguish different balkan countries, then you say that in Spain, they "hate each other", then you label Asian countries as xenophobic. Go ahead and try to say it was meant to be funny. It was not. Instead of apologizing for the stupidity of your post, you go on and have the nerve to tell other people that they "do not get it".
First off, I did explain my "stupidity." Read up!!! Uh, Everything I said was equivalent to the stupidity of the Aussie, which you said "great post Chrisopher." Which makes you a very naive foreigner in my MIND. Aside from that,,,,lookie here,,,Sir Charles is actually posting his take wow!!! write this down. Sir has a take!!!!!!!!!!!versus a one-liner with smilie. Why do you never have a take...mr SIR!!! until someone else committs. Too bad this topic is about American Playground BBall with which you have NO EXPERIENCE. you are so lame Sir. Getting upset like this on a topic you don't know.
I agree with the bulk of what you're saying and I believe that you agree with my opinion to a certain extent. Your last paragraph is my point. I had my own free will and made my own decisions, but having strong morals instilled in me as a youth assisted me in choosing the directions that I chose. And still with those decisions, one mishap or fortunate turn could have reshaped my life. What if I'd chosen a school that didn't have the state's best d-lineman playing in front of me? Was I the second best but was never seen? What if the state trooper had looked more closely during that traffic stop? What if I hadn't chosen to use a condom that night? There are a large number of todays youth growing up with pimps, addicts, hustlers, drugs etc. involved in their day to day existence. You don't think that this would affect a kid in some capacity, good, bad, or otherwise? Take the same kids and surround them with the likes educated professionals and businessmen and a strong moral upbringing and you've given them an environment more conducive to social acceptance (for whatever that's worth). The environment doesn't ultimately decide one's fate but I do believe that it plays a strong part in determining it.
How do YOU know what I have experience with? Granted, it was only one year, but I did play almost every day (or rather TRIED TO play) with black guys in front of my apartment complex on the UH campus - they had floodlights there, so people played until 3 or 4 a.m. in the morning almost every day. And your attempt to weazle your way out of this is extremely lame. Excusing the stupidity of something you post by claiming that someone else posted something stupid - that is lame. Kind of like a crying kid that gets chastised by a parent for a fight with another kid that says "but he hit me first". Stupid.
What I meant by "great post" is that I liked that he said he can't stand Vince Carter (I can't either, he was acting like an idiot at the Olympic Games) and that Vince could learn a thing or two about class from Hakeem. Just to clarify this.
Not even close. Labeling whole countries as xenophobic, racist and exposing your own ignorance by not being able to distinguish Slovenia from Bosnia, Croatia or Serbia and saying "they hate each other in Spain" is on a totally different level from anything the Aussie posted in this thread. Give it up.
Sir, You have no idea what Carter was saying. And if you don't want to accept that I nailed you with my "stereotypic" racist response to European bull****... good for you. All I know, is I got you out of you bull**** one-liners with emoticons.... tag
Lookie there. Another partial sentence from the man who never responds with a thought of his own, just "great post" or "stupid post." well done Sir.
My main point is this. I dont care if your white, black, yellow, purple, blue or checkered, I wouldnt put up with racial remarks in ANY part of life, let alone sport. Its NOT ok for a black player to say these things and lable it as trash talking. Imagine if a white swimmer said something to the black swimmer in the next lane as they stepped onto the blocks. You wouldnt put up with that crap, no one should. Why should any sport be different. Black baseball players have been put through hell at times and african americans have had such a hard fight against racisim for so long. I find it terrible that knowing all of that that and NBA player has no problem using racist remarks against white NBA players. Maybe he can branch out into the European players....and lord know what he'll say to Ming. But its ok....its just trash talk and Carter can say whatever he likes no matter if others feel he has crossed the line. Vince Carter may be ok with using racial remarks on the court, but I bet he would blow up if someone used a racial remark towards him off the court. Thats is double standards of the worst kind. Christopher
Yes, I have a thought of my own. It is the following: You sometimes act like an unbearable moron on this BBS. Oh, then again, that might not only be a thought of my own...Clutch said something similar, too. He was right. This is my final post in this thread. Cheers.
Why? I often see people doing this when the debates get heated. As long as neither side is acting overly idiotic/obnoxious, why would you not finish your argument? Bowing out often means you have nothing left.
Ok, since you are asking me a question, I have to answer and post one more time . I said that because I think that a pissing match between two posters is stupid. This thread has deteriorated, and this is 50 % my fault, into a silly argument between two idiots that had nothing anymore to do with the original topic of the thread but was rather about criticizing each other's posting style. Since I realized that, I wanted to end that argument right there no matter what the other idiot would say and this is why I said that.
I know where you're coming from, heypartner. Good points overall... ...But just to add fuel to the fire since I have too much free time on my hands , I've seen Cat repeatedly yell "White Bread!" at the top of his lungs while standing at the free throw line when a white player on the opposing team checks into the game. I believe this happened when the Rox played at Philly last season (Matt Harpring). I'm almost positive he did it again when we played at Orlando (Pat Garrity). The article was written by Kevin Blackistone, who is himself a black man, for whatever that's worth. Here's his picture: Personally, I agree with heypartner's take on this. This is the real world, deal with it. But...it will be interesting to see how Ming will deals with this type of treatment.
moomoo, I lived in Dallas for more than 10 years (and read the sports section everyday, of course). I usually didn't like Blackistone's articles. He was so negative about everything. But I think he actually has some good points in the article you posted. He seems to point out the evil of "reverse racism" which I found him doing it from time to time in his other articles.
Good Answer...The first time I read the thread, I didn't sense the bickering as strongly as I now do.
I live in Dallas and can tell you that Blackistone looks for the racial story line in most of his collums. He's been doing it for years and there is little doubt in my mind that he was over stating Vince's 'white boy' remark for his collum. I really like some of Blackistones collums and some really get on my nerve because it seems like he is always trying to play the race card. I don't think he is racisest I just think he likes to provoke a little contraversy for his collums. As far as the white boy remarks on black basketball courts, I have use it myself on black players "how does it feel to be schooled by a white boy?" Besides the term white boy is usually just a way to talk smack. The term white boy has never offended me since...suprise...I am a white boy. It does not bother me that white players are thought of to be as good as black players. Its up to every players to play the game and prove he belongs. And before anyone goes pointing the finger at Vince Carter or other black basketball players for not giving white players enough repect maybe we should consider the following scenario: An athletic looking black man walks onto an all white basketball court and takes a few shots. No one knows the black player but when teams are picked he will be one of the first if not the first player taken almost every time. Why? No one knows how good he really is. The reason is simple, even white people in america consider black people in general to be better basketball players than other white people.
