Dirk yes..but not really. Dirk can be a catch and shoot guy all day long and be good at it. Jkiddo...right now in the half-court set he's become a spot-3-pt-shooter. I don't really know that much about butler, but if he can drive the ball and even somewhat finish or draw ft's, that's going to be huge for the mavs. If he'll dish it out as well he will be huge. The only guy we have on the team that can drive and dish is jjbarea. When jet trys he just gets blocked, he's not big enough (or clever enough) to draw fouls.

Actually jet hasn't figured out how to draw fouls from guards, when it comes to the big guys inside, je just gets stuffed.

For what it's worth I think you guys are doing quite nicely for yourself and I would actually say that increasing your chances to make the 8th seed isn't in your best interests. Not many teams have the chance to stink it up while your superstar (yao) is rehabilitating. You stink and you get a really nice draft pick to go along when he gets back. TMACs contract is just too big for anyone to pick up, it costs them way too many players. If TMAC were still a good player then maybe, but he's obviously not seen as much, some team will get a pretty good player when he's released. Maybe the mavs? :)

The Mavs just got a whole lot better and the Rockets still have Battier. :( And McGrady.

anyhow...you do know this team still doesn't beat the lakers, right? caron is a nice addition that gives yall a better chance if kobe, bynum, and gasol can't stay healthy. but a healthy lakers still takes it over a healthy dallas squad with caron.

Who does? You can't do much more than make your team better so that they can compete. I don't see many guarantee'd trades out that that would make us (on paper at least) better than the lakers.

What is kinda nice is that this deal doesn't impact whatever ability the mavs had for the 2010 folks because of the dampier contract. Much like the tmac contract gives you guys the ability to take on someone who wants out.

Other than the fact that the Mavs may have improved, I'm really not too disappointed. I don't know too much about C. Butler, but I'm not very excited at the prospect of the Rockets getting him.

Well, this shuts down half the rumors in GARM. I guess that may be a good thing. :)

I'm surprised Cuban is still willing to spend money despite the economy. I hate the guy because he's a douchebag, but I at least give him props for not being cheap.

This is all I cared about in regards to Butler: turns 30 in March.

lakers and mavs have a pretty stacked lineup...
There is no way we can compete unless we magically get yao back 100% and then add two more all stars..
    oh well
i hate the mavs and really hope they dont win it all that would just kill me

Yep. Dampier's $13.1M non-guaranteed contract might be the single most attractive trade asset for any team looking to dump salary this offseason. Plus, he makes just about any sign-and-trade for a max player (like Bosh) fairly easy to accomplish under the salary cap.

    Bima,

Do you think the Rox could adopt this "non-guaranteed" contracts to our players.

I'm guessing Cuban pays more to have that luxury.
