I questioned whether Nash deserved the MVP over Kobe and Lebron 2 season ago, but Nash will be the runaway winner this year, and he deserves it. His offensive efficiency is insane for anyone, let alone a guard, and he leads the league in assists. Then when you factor intangebles--how he is in clutch games and how average Phx is without him--it is all him. I agree Dirk is the #2 choice, had what happened last night been reversed I think he could have closed the gap a little, but now Nash as the MVP is all but sown up. Further, since Wade went down for some many games, now Lebron and Kobe would be fighting for a distant 3rd--probably Lebron as his team is better and he isn't missing games. Kobe isn't close to the overall MVP this year. He might of deserved it last year or the year before that, but there will not be and should be no make-up (sympathy) voting for him.
Maybe it's the homer in me, but I see T-Mac as #3. LeBron has been decent lately, but I just have this opinion that he's been coasting too much this year. Kobe is probably the best player in the league, but not the MVP. He's been a villain this year with his elbows.
It's amazing how one game changes perceptions. I like Nash a lot and he's one of my favorite players, but last night's game won't change my MVP opinion on it's own. This tidal wave towards Nash is crazy. I WANT him to win it instead of Dirk but one game doesn't make a season. The Mavs still have 3 fewer losses. It feels weird to have defended Nash in an earlier thread (that I started), but after changing to Dirk because of Dallas' amazing run, I'm now hesitant to go back to my earlier choice Nash. It must be the natural contrarian in me.
Yao destroyed the mavs in the post season two when he wasn't nearly as dominant as he is now. Just no one else besides tmac showed up to play in that game 7.
Well, good news is it's not the 'homer' in you at all. I was watching NBA TV the other night and they discussed their top MVP candidates. Pretty much the entire panel ranked McGrady as third behind Dirk and Nash. Me personally, I would throw Lebron in there as well, but I don't think anyone outside those four names will get any serious consideration for the MVP trophy. I think if the Rockets roll off a few games in a row and get really hot to close the regular season, McGrady's MVP case will be helped even more. With the total collapse of the Lakers, no one will give Kobe any serious consideration, and Wade's injury coupled with the Heat's less-than-mediocre record without Shaq (now they're winning without Wade, how ironic is that?) pretty much eliminated him from the discussion. I think McGrady and Lebron will end up competing for the third most votes behind Nash and Dirk, and I think that would be fair because team success is always a big factor.
Heads up this game is on ESPN Classic right now. Was the game that good that they made it a classic already. I only saw the last 1/2 hour or so because I was watching the Rox game but I am watching it now.
i hope Dirk gets it....i cant fathom Nash getting 3 mvps and NOT A SINGLE FINAL APPERANCE. All i see is a 20 and 10 guy
Mmm...I'm putting it out right here that I'm scared of the Mavs and Suns. I've gone playoff seeding and praying what I write happens to help me deal with the fear. 1-Mavs 2-Suns 3-Spurs 4-Jazz 5-Rockets (home-court adv.) 6-Nuggets (might give the Spurs a ride, who knows...no one else really fits.) 7-Lakers (See: 2005-2006 playoffs) 8-Warriors (Nellie seems to love giving his old team problems...4-game winning streak against Dallas ) What I would love seeing... Round 1 GSW 4---Dallas 3 Lakers 4---Suns 3 Spurs 4---Nuggets 2 Rockets 4---Utah 2 Round 2 Rockets 4---GSW 1 Lakers 4---Spurs 3 WCF Rockets 4---Lakers 2 Finals Rockets 4---Cavs 2 ...The odds of all that happening are really slim. But I BELIEVE. ...Damn, the West is a hard place
Flip was much better than Chauncey would have been. That was his career game on both ends of the floor.
The question is if the pistons win on sunday who is the best team. If the suns make it to finals and play the pistons , my money is on the pistons. Billups and lock nash and score on nash. The problem wit terry is cant stop nash and we all know nash cant stop a stop sign.
my hate for dallas has grown exponentially in the last 2 days. especially after watching a youtube video on the officiating in game 5 of the playoff series. does anyone have a good wallpaper size pic of the dunk over bradley by tracy? i remember seeing one that said something like ride a maverick instead...
It could happen, but I doubt it. Dallas in the playoffs would sweep GSW so fast its not even funny. Dallas is a great team, this year. So great teams in the regular season, do falter in the playoffs, but others completely take over. It seems like everyone on this board wants Dallas, Suns, or Spurs to choke. But if we do play them, it's going to have to be more about the Rockets winning than Dallas choking. It's not gonna happen, you know how many times a number 1 or 2 have lost in first round? It's less than the fingers on my hand.
