Pretty much every high profile celebrity, businessperson , poltician etc actual does do it.

They are also the same people who allowed and perpetuated a system by their disproportionate influence that has crested a system where families start go fund me campaigns when they have a terminally ill family member.

I couldn't disagree more but I don't have the time to debate other than to say that many interactions between people are negotiations at a very base level and that social engineering is alive in well in society.

This a thread has evolved into a topic to discuss our opinion on Mattress Mack's goodwill and business practices. I'm sharing my opinion of how stupid I think it is to be unable to separate the good things he does versus the shitty policies that have allowed him and other wealthy individuals to gain their wealth. I'm not defending Mack because I'm concerned about his mental status or what he thinks I think about him.

Bernie Sanders and AOC and She Hulk have done nothing for Houston

these non contributing members in Boston would never step foot where Mack does business

It's alive but in different formats like social media grifting with things like Patreon subscriptions. Today the concept of a door to door salesman wouldn't work. Current young generations don't rely on obvious sales pitches that boomers and gen x bought into. They're going to read product reviews on Reddit or something and make purchasing decisions through that. Today a cars salesman is useless. The vast majority of the time the buyer shows up to the lot with more product knowledge than the salesperson. The only reason that person exists is to sell extended warranties and other types of coverages to tack on to the MSRP. That's zero value to society. Mattress Mack's business model also is going out the window. More and more people shop online, measure the dimensions to make sure the furniture fits and orders. And those people will again go to their trusted source of consumer reviews to inform them, not a salesperson.

But yes there are modern ways to grift.

"Good things he's done" are things that people like him wouldn't need to do for pr if thousands of people like him didn't lobby and vote to gut safety nets, gut infrastructure, worker rights etc.

Why do we need charities in the world's wealthiest country to house victims of hurricanes? Other countries have that **** figured out that are less wealthy than us at least with basic **** like this.

Nobody in Houston has to buy a mattress from Mack
There are plenty of retail stores
Plus the people who never live in Houston get their beds from that aisle at Walmart that sells camping gear

Leveraging your wealth and influence to affect laws, policies and politics is as old as humanity itself. It is completely fair and righteous to take umbrage when someone does so to the detriment of their fellow man. Yeah, Mack has done a lot, but if this lawsuit is motivated by and/or results in GOP/Trumpette-style voter suppression or voting cheating, it needs to be called out and condemned. Two rights don't make a wrong right.

    He could lose the lawsuit
And then everyone here could be happy

but if he wins then that proves his point

And I'm fine with that. I'm simply stating that to take **** on his previous goodwill (despite the policies that have let him acquire that wealth) is stupid just because of this lawsuit. I am annoyed about the lawsuit, and I certainly will take my business elsewhere, but at the end of day he has always been there for Houston and I'm not going to pretend he hasn't due to some ridiculous lawsuit that he is pursuing to influence the system. I think it's fine to criticize him for this issue, not arguing against that.

Screw Mack, I never understand people's love for a self promotor - everything he does is to make himself more money....everything.

This isn't about politics. Its about spinning baseless conspiracies that undermind the will of democracy and plants seeds of doubts to future generations over NOTHING. We don't care that mack is a republican. The damn problem is he's been spewing election conspiracies that he knows aren't true cuz his candidate lost.

This isn't rocket science. He's a piece of **** and anyone who undermines our democracy is the same. I thought the same thing about folks on the left spinning conspiracies about Trump.

We have to accept the results of our elections if we are to function as a society. Full stop.

Seriously you don’t welcome charity from him during a disaster?

Do you think it would’ve been better for the people who got flooded out by Harvey to not have been able to stay in his stores becaue of his political leanings?

This is something that I’ve seen before having dealt with disasters and aid. That people say they are for helping “the common people” but then oppose efforts in to help them because of things like politics.

Of course there are larger policy issues and politics does matter. In a disaster though one would hope we can put that aside to address the emergency.

Has anybody told Matttress Mack to question the voting machines? I hear that works out really well when you do that.
