I've thought Stafford wasn't at fault for their problems but he has looked horrendous at times.

    Pass.

Will be in his 8th year next year... He's Jay Cutler with a little bit more fanfare/success and the yet to be revealed pissy attitude.

QB is kind of a position you want to min-max with.

You either want an elite guy or a guy who just simply won't lose you the game.

Paying a dude 15-20 million (Alex Smith, Stafford, Tannehill, etc) when he's virtually indistinguishable from a guy making 5 million (Fitzpatrick, Henne, Hoyer, etc) is how you eff up a franchise.

    he's 27...
So he'd be 1 year older than Brees when he made the move to the Saints... with a similar track record.

You'd be hard pressed to find another Brees-like situation... they are really pretty similar.

Which by NO MEANS implies Stafford will turn out like Brees... as noted, he might be more Jay Cutler than Brees for all I know.

why not. He's shown he has the goods...not very consistent but could still turn into something special with the right system. I mean the alternatives may just be a hit or miss QB in the draft or Hoyer. I'll go with Stafford.

It depends on the salary, but I wouldn't be opposed to bringing him in.

I still believe it's still in the best interest of rookie QBs to sit for a few years. Problem is, they're usually competing with guys like Chad Henne or Matt Cassel so they end up playing sooner rather than later. Not everybody can sit behind Brett Favre. But I think Stafford is good enough where even if you drafted a QB in the first, he'd still have a firm hold on the job all year long. You'd have the rare luxury of letting a highly drafted QB sit for a year. Or two if Stafford ends up playing pretty well.

If O'Brien can get career years out of Fitzpatrick and Hoyer, I'm confident we could get really good production out of Stafford. If, and it's probably a really big "if", you can get Stafford for 3 years at reasonable money, I'd be inclined to do it.

Depends on how he plays as a Texan. Don't forget the Texans had a superbowl QB on the team in 2010.
