I'm only saying stuff related to the QB. Missed kicks and RB fumbles aren't on the QB. (not only that, no guarantee that those plays even happen in a bizarro world where Schaub is healthy and starts this game). Or were you one of those blaming Schaub for (K/Ch)ris Brown's misqueues a few years ago. The only thing we have seen Yates do that Schaub could highly unlikely be able to do is scramble for 17 yards up the middle with traffic on third and 15.
*chuckle* I know folx think of me as a Schaub hater but I'm not. . . just don't give him the mega props others do then again I was never a fan of Drew Bledsoe either Rocket River *grin*
Agree completely. Even more, I was concerned about some of Yates sacks he took, where he did seem to start to have a little bit of that "panic" look. Plus losing the ball. I feel pretty good Schaub would have had the ball out at that point. But I was responding to your bizarro world with the Texans ahead 29-17 (or something) and handing the ball off. It's a bizarro world, so why argue... BUT, it's not like the offense put up 30 on everybody with Schaub either. Against Pittsburgh and Baltimore they put up 17 and 14, respectively. Heck, against the Dolphins and Raiders they only scored 23 and 25. Ignoring the Jacksonville second half (which I think makes sense), you have to consider the Falcons are a great defense, and the Bengals have a solid defense, too. This week should be an interesting gauge. On the one hand, there should be somewhat of a letdown. Still on the road, division wrapped up, and how many lucky breaks can you get. Alternatively, the Panthers will be one of the worst defenses we play this year. Can we get our running game going again, and not rely on 4th quarter play? Hopefully. In either case, if Yates is simply doing what Schaub is doing... that's great! that said, there are 2 definitive things I can say he does better. (1) the scrambling ability. granted, he took a couple of sacks, but alternatively that was a great scramble at the end, and the called scramble earlier in the game, etc. And (2) the deep ball. Yates seems to throw a much better deep ball to me. I mean it is right on target. It's a beautiful pass. It's not underthrown. Yes, Schaub has taken too much flack for this, but it's true. Alternatively, Yates needs to continue working on his pocket presence and progressions, and just get a better familiarity for the game and the speed of the game. But without a doubt, there is definite reason for optimism, here, agreed? Serious, legitimate optimism. He's outplayed, imo, an established solid young quarterback with playoff experience on a team hoping to make a Superbowl run in Ryan, and a fellow rookie, drafted considerably ahead of him, who's gotten a lot of accolade. Sure, the Texans have a great team around him, but it's not like Dalton didn't throw what could have very easily been a 100 yard pick 6 yesterday. Even the best quarterbacks make mistakes. It's pretty exciting, however, to know that when the game is on the line, Yates seems to play better. He's got some Tebow in him, except he can also be a legit pro-QB.
Or trade for mad picks Philly style. We know how Washington likes to spend, and if Shanny stays he'll have plenty of evidence of how Yates does in this system.
