I don't understand why people are complaining about the contract. Only $7m is guaranteed. Even if he does stay past the first year, the Texans can let him walk after three years if it doesn't work out without any financial ramifications. I don't see how the financial aspect of the trade is a problem. Plus this guy is better than anything we could've gotten out of the draft to begin with. Nothing is a sure thing, but Matt Schaub is definitely more of a sure thing than JaMarcus Russell and Brady Quinn could ever be. This was definitely the best move they could've made. For all the fans here in Houston complaining, I can imagine just how many fans in Atlanta right now are fuming over the fact that they basically gave Schaub away.
Yeah...that phrase was a little hyperbolic. The bottom line is we really won't know for sure until we see him on the field, but I definitely feel much more comfortable starting the season with Matt Schaub at the helm rather than some overhyped rookie. For reference -- Jay Cutler is probably better than any of the quarterbacks in the draft this season, and he had a poor rookie season with the Broncos. Makes you wonder if we would've even matched last season's 6-10 record with another rookie.
The way I see it, it's like we drafted a young QB in the 2nd round. Sure, we don't know much about Schaub. But we know more about him than any rookie QB. And he's only a couple of years older than a rookie, unlike Plummer or Garcia. Also, Falcon fans (from what I understand) are pretty happy with this trade. They're getting 2 2nd round picks for a guy who isn't even expected to play next year. It IS possible for a trade to be good for both teams. Let's just hope it's good for us.
Well, the Texans are gonna go all in here. If they mess up now, there fan base will never return. If they got 2 2nd round picks for Schaub.... What could my Cowboys get for Romo?
Less. He's a year older and didn't have the pedigree coming out of college. He rode the pine as a 3rd stringer as opposed to having high value as the best backup in the game for 2 years. Based on what he's shown, he's still an unknown...started out hot, got a little cold towards the end and then had the choke. I think his value would be slightly lower than Schaub's on the trade market at the moment.
It's because you use draft picks to manage the salary cap. When you trade draft picks and give big money, you're going to get into trouble. The $7 mil guaranteed is a bogus argument. As long as Kubiak is here, they're not going to cut Schaub after giving up two draft picks for him. It might as well be all guaranteed.
Blah, blah, blah. Another idiotic blanket statement. Any team that loses consistently will lose fans, eventually. Any team that wins consistently is going to get a stronger fan base. One move or roster decision doesn't mean Jack. Having sellouts after passing on hometown fav VY proves that. Yeah, the Texans could continue suck year after year and the crowds would start to dwindle as people gave up on the team. But as soon as they start winning, the fans in football hungry Houston would return in greater numbers. Tampa Bay anyone? It's the cumulative decisions combined with current performance that draws fans in or drives them away.
did anybody else hear the difference in Schaub talking today and when Carr talks to the media. Matt just seems soooo more intelligent than David. He said "confidence is a result of demonstrated performance" when would you hear DC say something that intelligent? David is just like, yeah football dude, radical. I think we are going to be very happy with this guy. If we can get a WR in the draft and strengthen the line, this could be a very solid, Denver Bronco type offense, not explosive but solid. This is an exciting time to be a Texan fan, putting the past behind us.
