i don't think anyone's actually "sold on schaub". he's someone new but we could see the potential in him.
So much for the "smokescreen" theory. Or the theory that we're going to keep Carr because we don't want to admit we made a mistake by extending him. *coughhillboycough* I applaud the Texans for moving forward instead of living in the past, unlike many of their fans.
For one thing, this guy has experience in a West Coast Offense in both college and in pro ball. Despite his limited play, he looked good running an offense. The most important factor is that Kubiak chose this guy to run the offense. That immediately brings credibility to the whole team IMO. If the ship sinks, Kubiak won't have an excuse because he got the guy he wanted.

I still don't know why Kubiak gets a free pass on Carr not working out here. Kubiak said at his press conference last year that he believed he could win with Carr and now they trade for a backup QB and unload another Brinks truck to him and now they'll do better since Kubiak hand-picked him. Whats next? Schaub doesn't work out and then the excuse will be he hasn't drafted and developed a QB? This franchise has made some very questionable moves and definitely could be second-guessed. I'm not happy with giving up two second rounders simply because this team has so many holes and this QB problem could've been solved last year. I seriously hope that the Texans get something for Carr and trade down again to get still get some impact players to help this team win.
This reminds me of the Battier trade. I'm very happy to have him (Schaub), but feel we gave up too much for him and/or could have gotten more for what we gave up. But hey, we are the Texans, did you expect any less? Pugs
Carr was never his guy. He did go out on a limb when he got hired, and he failed. However, I personally won't blame the coach for having to clean up a horrible mess. Afterall, he did increase our win total by 4 games. It takes time for a QB to learn the WCO, and it was the case where either Carr didn't have the aptitude or he didn't have enough time. The Texans now have a guy that is experienced with the WCO and have the potential to be a pretty good QB. The loss of 2 2nd rounders is a steep price, but Kubiak now has his man at QB. He is now accountable if the team don't make the playoffs by 2008-2009 season.
You know, that got me thinking. I wonder if Kubiak really believed he could turn Carr around...or if he just said that to McNair because he thought that's what McNair wanted to hear to give him the job.
What's Kubes gonna say?I see it as being for public, owner, and player's comsumption. BTW....Feel any better about Schaub?
Not too crazy about this trade. I'd have preferred dumping Carr and going with Rosenfels for a year while we fill other needs... of which there are obviously many. Giving up two #2 draft picks and throwing in this kind of a contract for an unproven QB in this league is just dumb. I hope to hell it works out but this reeks of desperation. Second round picks are pure gold for teams like the Texans and you can't afford to throw them around like we've done.
This theory has been floating around and it holds water. Carr was given the extention before a coach was hired and McNair asked all the coaching candidates if they thought they could win with Carr at QB. Carr was going to be the QB no matter who was hired. If Kubiak wanted the job, he basically had to appease McNair and say yes, I can win with David. If he hadn't, there was a good possibility McNair would have hired somebody else. Now whether Kubiak really believed it or not is open to speculation.
That's my theory. However, Carr was given the extension about a week after Kubiak was hired. But still, I honestly believed that part of the requirement for the HC was to work with Carr. I don't think McNair would have given the job to someone that said "Carr wasn't the guy, I want another QB."
