I assume they would have to re-sign him since they bought out his original contract.

I saw him a year ago at Tour 18. He was fat. Makes Strickland look like "fitness personality" John Basedow.

Hmmm... the term "square" isn't really used in common slang anymore, is it? Except by squares, of course. ;)

My sophomore year of college (junior now) I had a Spanish professor that got her PhD at Penn (where Maloney went to school) and when I mentioned that I was a Rockets fan she asked if I knew who Matt Maloney was. I was shocked that she knew who he was and was like "yeah! stupid guy got a huge contract from the Rockets and didn't even play for it." So, as the story goes, she was a teaching assistant and had Maloney in one of her classes. She said he always talked about going to the NBA but she said he was crazy because he wasn't even the best player on the team at Penn. Anyways, she kept him from getting a degree and failed him in her Spanish class. Said he was a history major and planned on going to grad school if he couldn't get into the NBA.

"Matt Maloney's contract was the worst signing in the history of western civilization."

I know he lived out in Greatwood or had a girl there or something in 1999 cause my buddy delivered pizzas and saw him running out there. Greatwood is big neighborhood down 59South 4 miles past Sugar Land.

And even though he was part of the tri-headed PG Scrub Squad with Brent Price and Bryce Drew i think...but didn't Maloney hit like 8 3pters in a playoff game against the Sonics.

Man, shootin wide-open treys created by Dream and Barkley and Drexler must have been nice.

Hate the game not the player...

Maloney had some nice games and a couple of decent seasons with the ROX. Not his fault that CD throws money at anyone who has a good game. Maloney was perfect on those ROX teams... all he had to do was hit open jays... and he could do that. Wish I could say the same for Strickland.

While he comes off the books this year (or next), his agent and the Rockets negotiated to stretch out the deal for 14 years instead of 7. I'm sure he gets a tad more money (unless his agent is an idiot) and the Rockets get the Matt Maloney installment plan.

My buddy from Vandy was his roommate for a semester in Lupton dorm, before he left and went to Penn. They still hang out. I had heard about his music attempts. Also he had done some modeling in Atlanta, if I recall.

When the Bulls picked him up they were forced to pay him league minimum and we paid him the rest.
Man, we were paying at one time:
    1. Don McClean
    2. Stacey Augman
    3. Maloney
    4. and others
that weren't even on the team.

i think i've mentioned it before, but i've seen him 3 times.

    May 1998 @ IAH
February 2003 @ Numbers for the Maroon 5 concert
spring 2003 @ Brian O'Neill's in the village
October 2004 @ Tavern during one of the Astros playoff games

at Numbers, he was telling me how he has a recording studio so this story is similar to stack's. i could barely hear what he was saying and his eyes were blood shot so who knows what else he said?

    hahaha this is so hilarious

i really liked his shooting back then. pretty sad how he is nothing now, recording bunk albums and shooting around at an indoor "apartment complex" court.

oh well, can't blame a guy who made millions and doesn't have to work anymore. well done maloney.

Were we using "American Pie" for advertizing and paying him royalties?

Why is that guy still in Houston. I figured he take the money and run. He isn't exactly a fan favorite.

I took a leak next to him at the Roxy back in the day.
