I think it's true this is what a sixer insider said. Re: SF76 Deadline Thread Postby sixerfan1976 on Fri Feb 05, 2010 1:41 pm because houston isnt sure they want to move him ..like i said...if they just let him expire then they have the cap space in the offseason. all i got for now...be back later. gotta run.
If the Rockets are being offered crap or players with large contracts in return for McGrady then it makes sense if they let him expire. There is a lot of uncertainty about a new CBA between the players union and the owners. Talk of a hard cap and a lockout complicates the type of salaries the Rockets can tie themselves to.
owners that want cap space without spending it are cheap. go after amare or iggy. bye bye scola and trade battier for an expiring. fine with me.
btw, for all you season ticket holders, you do know that Les is laughing all the way to the bank with your money right ? Yeah losing sucks but come on,if you're the owner and you have a choice between millions or a few wins which are you going to choose?
Or maybe there trying to lower are expectations.so when we trade for garbage we will be like .well that's better then nothing.
clutch's point was that he could have been talking to someone from the 76rs and received info from them...even though bullard works for houston he still has his connections around the league..
i dont think it's as simple as just letting him expire...remember it still only give sus under 10 mill to use and morey knows that's not enough to get the type of player he wants and knows the team needs... so for those cap experts...how would the numbers look if battier/ariza were traded? Or both? I dont think i've seen this optin brought up until today...could morey use that to up the available money, keep scola and/or lowry, and have a direct route to negotiate with a big name?
How have they approached this? What we know is nada; rumors come and go, facts have not come. At all.
probably angling at the whole "trot McGrady out for a few minutes then just cut ties and make sure everyone knows we're trying to trade him" other players look at it as the organization being a little tactless of course true Rocket fans that have followed the McGrady saga for years and years understand the organization isn't at fault, but other players, fans, and ownership aren't as familiar with the situation as we all are
i can't see big z being an option, he makes like 11 mill, shane or ariza individually don't work and i can't see the cavs taking on both for one year (and ariza for many more) when they play the same position Lebron plays.
I actually think the same thing. The fact is, no one is going to trade for McGrady as a player and few teams with good players are going to trade their own good players they could build around or with for just salary cap purposes like some would hope for. Morey is smart enough to know not to force a deal for the deal's sake, especially when all you are getting offered is trash that will weigh you down in the future.
I have actually come to terms that while VERY disappointing if we do not move TMAC's contract it wouldn't be the worst thing. It basically comes down to adding Yao and... If TMAC is traded then receiving an impact player+help either via an expiring or young player for the future which would POSSIBLY allow us to pick up MLE guy like Mike Miller and a 1st round pick in the offseason. or Letting TMAC expire, picking up a nice tier 2 or 3 player and adding a mid 1st rd pick. If option 2 would to happen I am sure more tweaking would happen so their would still be turnover and a CHANCE to be a title contender but it would just be disappointing that nothing would have happen to help this years squad.
Houston: Takes on Jeffries Iggy / Speights / Young / Williams / *Lee / Gallinari / *Milicic / Jeffries Philadelphia: Ariza / Battier / *Hayes / Andersen / Dorsey / Taylor / *Cook / Houston's 1st Rounder New York: Lands Llull from Europe and the expring contract of McGrady *McGrady / Llull / Maybe not 2nd Round Pick
Morey needs to keep in mind what the total salary will be after resigning all the free agents. Les has not been so inclined to pay luxury tax in the past. Talks are that he would only pay luxury tax for that "special" player. If Morey overloads the salary for next year, he may not be able to resign his own FAs like Scola or Lowry - as I don't think they qualify as a "special" enough player for Les to pay luxury tax on. Les might just draw the line and let those players walk. Bear in mind the salary cap will likely decrease next year, further decreasing any flexibility and increasing any possible tax paid. And who knows what happens after the collective bargaining agreement is re-negotiated (maybe even more tax!) Les is not cheap, but neither is he like the Laker's owner, who tells his GM that he is willing to have a salary total up to $100M (something I read in Lakers forum). Or the Knicks, who obviously doesn't care about luxury taxes. I think that is just another restriction that Morey must work his magic under (and he can do it too, but he needs to fill his team with underpaid players like he is now, not overpaid ones). We all saw him playing hardball with Landry and Von Wafer in past offseasons - most of us would have just signed Landry and Von Wafer, but Morey played harder ball than we all thought. Just my 2 cents...
