I cannot say Matt was the best. They were all bad but Gerald would be the person I could slightly say he was the tiny winny better than the rest. Matt hard little to zero passion or life during his segment. In short they were all bad enough to declare that there was no best. Dawkins (chocolate thunder) was clearly the worst. J.R. kept using an annoying phrase......."that right there", or something along those lines, over and over and over again. Wow! That said, competitions like that do not necessarily bring out one's best. I do not believe Matt or Wilkins would have been bad if it was a normal certain like Mark Jackson or Greg Anthony found themselves. I bet Stephen A., Greg Anthony, Tim Legler and Mark Jackson would have struggled too if they found themselves in similar situation. I did not necessarily enjoy the show - I watched it out of curiousity and I am not sure I will return unless there is absolutely nothing else on tv or a miraculous change of heart.
If Dikembe Mutombo retires after this season I would love to see him try out for Dream Job IV. I think he would do a great job.
Did any of you hear the sound bite on 610 they had from the first show before competition. Before Bullard went on Scott asked him why he was wearing his Championship ring. "are you trying to show off" Bullard , "No it just means a lot to me and i worked really hard to get one and it was special and it's something Steven A Smith will never get" LOL That was before he went on stage to perform and then Steven A Smith graded him and ripped into him saying he is lecturing too much he missed this and that point...it was really funny.
Stephen A. Smith is a tool. Without the pressure of competition, I think Air Bullard would do a better job than him right now feeling in for the ESPN basketball crew.
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/barron/3056378 Bullard takes his shot in 'Dream Job' faceoff By DAVID BARRON Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle Before we begin, let us contemplate the ludicrous nature of a world in which the likes of Stephen A. Smith and Stuart Scott can determine the broadcasting career path of Matt Bullard. OK, that's enough. After all, it was Bullard's choice to accept an invitation for the latest edition of ESPN's Dream Job, where Smith is a judge and Scott is the host. In the words of the stirring theme song to the cartoon series SuperChicken, he knew the job was dangerous when he took it. Buck-ack. In the series that begins at 9 p.m. Sunday, the former Rockets forward will compete for a job as an ESPN NBA analyst against former NBA players Nick Anderson, Dee Brown, Darryl Dawkins, J.R. Reid and Gerald Wilkins. Bullard's career scoring average is less than the others. He has never won a dunk contest, and he has never shattered a backboard. But he does have a decided edge in broadcast experience, and he has an NBA championship ring. And the fact that ESPN employs Tim Legler is proof that it isn't predisposed against NBA journeymen. "I'm hoping they go for broadcast proficiency," Bullard said. "I'm hoping to win the job at ESPN, but this will be like a national audition for me. Every other sports outlet will be watching, too. I'm just trying to be as natural as I can be." Bullard did a few Rockets games early in the season and will broadcast a few late-season games as Van Chancellor prepares for the Comets' season. He also appears regularly on ESPN Radio and on KILT (610 AM) on Thursdays. "The thing he brings to the table is personality," said Bill Worrell, Bullard's occasional broadcast partner on FSN Southwest. "He keeps it light and keeps you informed. And he's so well-rounded. He's good at pop culture, which is an area where us old-timers can't keep up. I think he has a good chance to win it."
I ran into Stephen A. Smith at Toyota Center on Tuesday night and asked him about the show. No lie, he said he thinks Bull has the best shot at winning the thing. Just thought I'd share...
Very calm demeanor. I really think they MAKE him act like that, which is sad because when he used to make appearances on shows like The Last Word and others before becoming an exclusive ESPN analyst, he didn't always do that. He was very nice, and not standoffish at all. Having said that, it would have been pretty funny if he had just randomly busted out with a nice, loud "how-EVER!!!"
I thought Bull held his own there ... I seriously can't stand Stephen A Smith on this show ... He has no business there ... Maybe its just cuz I can't stand Philly ... I dunno
Both OK, but I thought Bull was definitely better. Good use of stats. Stephen A. is a total joke. He's gotten farther than anyone ACTING like he knows his stuff and actually knowing very little. I guess he figures if he acts all street and tough, then he'll come off as credible. What a joke. I'd love to see him do the drills and have the judges tear him up.
PS.....Kit is hot. They should have her sitting/lying on the desk giving commentary rather than behind it. What good is it having good looking women working for you if you don't take full advantage of their talent? At least on Cold Pizza they have her show some leg. I've told my wife before how local news affiliates could easily win their sweeps period if they'd be creative and have their female anchors and reporters in thong bikinis with full body shots---the good looking ones anyway. She brushed me off with this...
I sorta liked Chocolate Thunder and 3D's commenting, both personalities showed a bit more. You know the one thing I bet each contestant thinks while they are being critiqued, "I made more money then any of these fools ever made, screw them."
Matt being the only white guy on the roster probably makes him very unlikely to be the last guy standing. It would be uncomfortable to have him win even if he is good enough to win.
