it was a foul when yao tried to take that charge and he was in the circle. but other calls like when he got an offensive for putting his shoulder down and dunking seemed unfair. they do make that call on occassion but they usually allow guys like shaq to get away with it. it was his best/most aggressive move and he gets called for a charge. not right.
Perhaps Yao went up to Boland during the Olympics and said be careful not to tie your shoe laces to loose. beep!!! Double Technical
Anybody notice this: Vince Carter has got to be one of the biggest ACTORS in the NBA. Everytime he runs into a Yao screen, his head jerks back as if he brutally collided with a car and he's got whiplash. Whistle blows, and Yao gets called for two early bogus screen calls thanks to VC's over acting. He's like a soccer player who rolls around on the ground holding his knee, but when the officials continue on with the game, he gets back up and starts to run around again.
I wouldn't mind if the "no charge" zone went back to that, "a no charge" zone; the way it was the 1st year they drew it in. You couldn't get called for a charge in there, but if the defensive player was set in time it wasn't a block. Getting set in time down there would be a no call. Now it's the "always a block" zone b/c so many fans are so dumb that if the see contact they assume there has to be a foul.
Including the offensive foul where the defender was clearly in the restricted area? How about all the non calls against Collins? Do you think those were legit?
I thought Yao planted himself 1 time and was fouled, but they call it a blocking foul. Yao is going to get fed up with this and start taking out people to earn his fouls, if the refs don't change.
It should have been a no call. When the defender is inside the restricted area the offensive player has every right to lower his sholder and knock him over to get to the basket. This is Shaq's favorite move. As long as the defensive player has position then it is a no call simple as that. If a call is made then it has to be a defensive foul and if it is not then it is a bad call. The rule may suck but it is still the rule.
Agree...I've seen Shaq knock a lot of guys out of the way and dunk on them as they are falling down and there is no offensive foul called. It's funny how everyone tells YAO to be more aggressive and dunk on people but as he does it he gets called for offensive fouls, which forces him to sit, which in turn brings more criticism about his game. An absolute no win situation. He has to dunk hard on people but only if he can somehow make moves and dunk just not hard enough that they don't FLOP.
You can have a forearm, but not a hand, in the back. Which seems pretty random, but I guess you have to allow some touching. But not too much touching.
The worst of all, the so-called hardcore, lifetime or whatever, houston fans kept complaining Yao has no heart, playing like a sissy
\ I was at the game and that was the ref that was making all of the worst calls. From offensive fouls to everything else...he plain sucked...at least 2 times in the game he made a call that was overturned by the other 2 refs...it was so annoying to watch.
