I doubt Barnes would choose the Rockets given the competition for minutes here from TMac, Battier, Bonzi, and even Head and Snyder... even if some of them get traded, there's still plenty of competition.

If MB has to accept a cheap deal, he'll likely go some team that has a glaring hole and would allow him to showcase his skills.

what do we get with battier? solid defense, spot up three, disappears in playoffs

and barnes - defense, rebounding, threes, slashing, steps up in playoffs, enforcer

again, the proposal is not trading battier for barnes but battier morey's "veteran near allstar pf"

    then adding barnes

Get Barnes ASAP. 3 years, full MLE and player option for 4th yr. He's a quality bball player, period. Under Van Gundy, no way we get him because he does not think "outside the box". Under Adelman, we're talking another serious bullet in the chamber.

Barnes is the type that can develop into a Josh Howard. He showed tremendous athleticism and an all around game.

This is the kind of player we need to take a risk on.

What's the moreyball/hollinger analysis on him?

Sorry to break it to you but Barnes is better than Bonzi, Head and Snyder.

yeah i know...but it was also assuming that barnes would replace battier because he would be traded.

i dont think you can just list their skill sets and then come to the conclusion that they can do the same job.

All the Profiles say Forward. In terms of Position Barnes is just another Snyder I guess.

Yea I agree. The Rockets need some toughness on their team ala Mario Elie, and I think Barnes can provide that! I say YES! :D

For Nelson, he played the 4 a lot. The Rockets frontline if Nelson was coach would be Yao, McGrady, and Bonzi, though.

I'd also add that ever since the off-season I've been thinking that if we can't get a power forward for a package of expiring contracts and small buyouts like Sura, VSpan + Lucas then our best option is to trade Battier and sign one of the many small forwards on the market. Matt Barnes and Morris Peterson were my two favorite realistic options at small forward on the market.

There is a shortage of quality power forwards in free agency but small forward was it's deepest position. Rashard Lewis, Gerald Wallace, Morris Peterson, Matt Barnes, etc etc.

Great point, sometimes it depends on the system and the playing time they are given.

We can't get enough high energy, athletic guys. This is how you can build quality depth. For less than the MLE you have got to grab him. Might as well use the MLE on other positions, since there are no good pf's to get through that route. This is a million times better idea, than a ball hogging, no defense piece of crap like Steve Francis.

I like Barnes a lot, but I think I would prefer Pavlovic if he was attainable. He shot a much higher percentage from three last year, I think he's a bit quicker and he has solid penetrating ability. He's also 3 years younger than Barnes.

I suppose he's the example of a player falling thru the cracks DM the GM is seeking to build his genius on.

I hear the 'system fit' label thrown on Barnes a lot but people forget he played well for both the Sixers and Knicks the previous two seasons. He just never got the minutes to really stand out.

I was pushing for him last offseason and he ended up just signing with GS for dirt cheap at the start of training camp.

And this is different from most others teams how?

when Juwan and Chuck were in the game at the same time last year, that was the same sort of G G F F F line up that you are talking about.

I guess I didn't get the point here.

As for Barnes, he may just be trying to get more offers at a higher price with saying this to the media. I doubt seriously that he will be left at the end of the summer without no team to play for. The poor me routine is just his frustration at not getting the offers that he expected after a decent season last year.

How about trade Battier for Wilcox, sign Barnes, and sign Steve Franchise, lineup of :

    Steve
    TMAC
    Barnes
    Wilcox
    Yao
