Good movie, but I didn't like the rave scene. It was driving me nuts where I had seen the old councilor guy. Then I realized he was the Admiral in Star Trek: Insurrection.
I think the Architect is lying. Sort of at least. He presented Neo with a choice. To save Zion or Trinity. I don't think it matters which way Neo chooses, both end up with the same result. Remember what the french guy said? Choice is an illusion created by someone in power. I think that the Architect is creating an illusion of choice. If Neo chose the salvation of Zion, Zion would be reset and Neo would have to have hand picked 20 some people to rebuild with. When he chose to save trinity, Zion was destruyed and there was a handful of people left over to rebuild with. Same result. I think what is different about this iteration of the loop is that Agent Smith infected a person and that Neo is beginning to realize that Zion is still within in the Matrix (Stopping the squigglies, knowing that there was a bomb coming etc..)
Except that the Architect said that if he chooses to save Trinity, not only will Zion fall, but the matrix will crash, killing all humans still in it, effectively killing off the entire human race. So I don't think the two choices have the same result. Edit: Also, the 23 handpicked people to rebuild Zion with will not be the former Zion survivors. They will be people from the Matrix that Neo chooses (had he gone with the Source door).
Just got back from the movie. Personally, I thought the story sucked. I didnt' get anywhere near as immersed in this one as I did in the first one. That being said, it was ****ing awesome! The actions scenes kicked ass! Although, I hated some of the computer animation effects - they made it look like a video game at times.
Also, guys, I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this or not yet, but I watched the first movie again the other day, and noticed that Morpheus says to Neo, when explaining what the Matrix is, "There was a man born in the matrix who had the ability to manipulate the code, change it. He freed the first of us. When he died, the Oracle prophesied his return. I believe that is you." Or something to that effect. So whatever the previous "One" was before Neo, he has died, or at least Morpheus seems to think he has died.
The head hopping scene needed to go. It was like Legolas/Cave troll or Anakin/cattle all over again. It's amazing that I can watch Matrix 1 today, and none of the effects seem to have aged. However, some of the effects in Matrix Reloaded already look bad.
Can somebody clarify what was said during the whole Architect scene? I remember the Architect saying something at one point that was along the lines of that if Neo made a certain choice that all the people connected to the Matrix would die. What was that all about? Can someone clarify the whole Architect thing?
I definately see the signs of a matrix with a matrix. (This has already been done in the 13th floor btw) -Most importantly, Neo stopping the Setinals in the real world. The whole movie is based on a fictional vs real world. It would be impossible to do that in the real world. -The 5 previous attempts at Neo's fate with the architech -Back in the original Matrix, while Agent Smith was interrogating Morephous, I could never understand what he meant by "I need to get out of here and the key lies in there 'points to head'" The only explanation is that he wanted to get out of that Matrix and back into the original. Now what I don't understand is the point of Agent Smith replicating and bothering Neo all the time. If Neo freed him, then why is he the enemy? I think Neo keeps questioning this himself. As Agent smith said, "thank you for freeing me" I haven't seen the point in him yet. Why can't neo still fight the agents with ease like before? Or are the software upgrades that much better? Why didn't he kill the architech? If the dual matrix is the case, do you think that perhaps the whole Matrix is one big human fantasy? I don't think the creators would be that lame. Back in Matrix I when Neo broke the vase, didthe oracle know because she's already been through 5 of them? And if so, could the phrase "what will really bake your noodle is if you would have broke it if I didn't tell you?" have a much much deeper meaning than just the vase? (breaking the vase could be a comparison to breaking the Matrix)
Saw the movie today. DCkid's got the right idea. Story sucks, action and special f/x are off tha heezy. All day long I've looked here and at this site trying to make sense of the story, but I give up. I keep coming back to the same conclusion: the fundamental premise of the story (that, since they can no longer rely on the sun as their main power source, the machines must now "draw power from the human body, an endlessly multiplying infinitely renewable energy source" LOL!), is illogical (even kind of idiotic), which makes any attempt to fully "explain" the story futile. The concept as presented in the first Matrix was entertaining, even though the concept was flawed, because it was original, not to mention the badass special f/x. The Matrix is not science fiction, but science fantasy. So watch the movie, and think if you want, but don't think too much, and you should be entertained. Transcript of the Architect scene can be found here. The human body is an energy sink, not an energy source.
Deleted.. I didn't see the transcript of the Architects speech posted. I have to read this more carefully before I post something stupid =)
Something else I noticed (and I don't care what moomoo says, sometimes you have to suspend a little disbelief in movies like this. If you go in expecting a science fiction movie that perfectly follows the laws of nature, you will never enjoy a science fiction movie again. As long as you are "thinking too hard" within the Matrix universe, it is still fun to brainstorm) in my second viewing of the movie. When the Architect is speaking to Neo, he says, "You have many questions, and although the process has altered your consciousness, you remain irrevocably human. Ergo, some of my answers you will understand, and some of them you will not." I think this alteration that the Architect mentions is the reason Neo can suddenly kill the sentinels out in the real world. I think there are other explanations other than the dual matrix theory, and I hope they go with one of those explanations because I really don't like the idea of having the dual matrix. Seems like a copout to me.
Well Morpheus also believes in the "prophecy" and didnt Neo tell Morpheus that the "prophecy" was a lie, think its when hes telling them that their homeland(forget what it's called) is going to be destroyed.
I fell in love with Trinity when she hacked into the system at the end of the movie. For the computer geeks: http://www.insecure.org/ thats just badass. what a chick.
FINALLY... I can click on this thread!!! YEAH!!! I saw Reloaded today. I loved it. What a movie! I can't wait to see it again and I'm damn glad I stayed till the very end!
movement -- I saw that on /. this morning - When I was watching the movie I saw it was an actual system (not one of those contrived hollywood BS computer systems) I just about fell out of my seat. SO FREAKING AWESOME!!! Here's one more thing I noticed -- in the first Matrix, after Neo's been captured from his office by the Agents, he's taken to that interrogation room. The view of him is through a whole bunch of monitors -- a rounded wall of monitors. It didn't really make much sense at the time why they did that, but those are THE SAME MONITORS WHERE THE ARCHITECT IS. I was wondering if it was a coincidence, but I watched Matrix Reloaded again today and sure enough, they are the exact same monitors. What does that mean, I don't know, but I thought it was a cool observation. edit: One other thought: Deja Vu is a glitch in the Matrix -- if there have been six Neos, he is a glitch in the Matrix. I know the Architect mentioned that, I just thought it was another neat thing to notice.
Well I watched it... And I fell asleep during a part of it. It was pretty good. The action was cool. But it was kinda weird and confusing. Way too much talking. And the end....lol...what the heck?!? It just stopped and said "TO BE CONTINUED..." Oh well....next one is coming out in a couple of months.......... It was good. I kinda liked X-2 better though.
Other things to note: The spoon. Why? Definately lends itself to the dual matrix theory. Even tho' I don't believe it. but no real explanation for the spoon at this point. Sex Scene. Will there be a baby? Things happens in threes. Why? The name trinity also means things in three. But those three things are love, life, and the truth. All three of which have been found more than once. So nothing logical coming out of that unless the baby described above is life. Who the **** is the mother of the matrix. If it's not the oracle. Who we talking about here. There is no viable possibility other than the oracle. Which the architect said she was not. and why would you need a mother?
Well, what I was thinking, was that in the intervening six months - Neo had freed the boy who first showed him the spoon thing. Or maybe it wasn't Neo, maybe it was another captain, and the orphan merely wanted to show Neo that he had been freed at some point.
