We did let him go after summer league (ironically the 76ers signed him!!) We were also the first team to sign the undrafted player. Welcome to the Rockets. Wood finally got his act together late last season. Yay, we signed him up again (and got him cheap for his talent level).
Mason Jones is an interesting player, but looks to me to be too slow defensively, not a good enough shooter, and not a good enough handle. Project.
We are trying to rebuild a team now. Jones hasn’t proven anything. We need young talent like KPJ. Jones is not a 7ft player with skill like Wood. Yeah it took wood a while to figure it out, but there are PLENTY of better Gs we can take a chance on. I don’t hate Jones, I just dont see they hype in him. Not athletic, not a good defender, he is just avg., had that one good game and that was it.
Jones - can’t get by no one - can’t finish above no one, he’s only useful on a team as a catch and shoot player
Look I dunno how this move will turn out but can we all just agree never to refer to MASON freakin JONES as that again?
He is like a 35.8% shooter though. That is below league average. Not sure his shooting is consistent enough to be a catch and shoot guy who can't defend?
He has the potential to develop into something, but he’s too streaky and unathletic I think to ever be anything special. I’m glad he’s getting a chance somewhere else.
