That is to say, what probably has more objective truth than others. Now, considering the fact that Dunleavy didn't TOUCH the Maryland guy... Just wanted to throw this article out there. In my humble OPINION, someone finally had the balls in the media to call it as it was. No doubt, Duke played a good game in the second half, but a lot of it had to do with the fact that Maryland couldn't stay aggresive with a foul being called every time. They became very tentative and complacent on both sides of the floor. The BS call against Baxter was just the tip of the iceberg. While I agree that the call on Baxter to disqualify him was terrible, how can you whiners blame the refs for a 33 (thirty-three, three tens and three ones, three times eleven, forty minus seven, and the estimated age of Jesus) point turnaround. I've always wondered about this, ever since I watched Ohio State build a 22-pt second-half lead on Indiana in 1991 (both teams were in the Top 5; OSU was undefeated) only to blow 19 pts of it thanks to some very creative officiating. I still have the tape of that game and when I watch it now, it's hysterically funny. I mean there's one play where Greg Graham drives the lane, jumps, puts out his left arm, plants it square in Ohio State center Perry Carter's chest, shoves him backwards, lays the ball in... ...and gets rewarded with an and-one. I mean it's the most blatant chicken-wing I've ever seen, ever, and they called it on Carter, whose only real offense was having the temerity to stand there and wait for the contact. I don't buy the TV ratings argument-- I don't think the refs are smart enough for that one-- but I definitely think they play favorites and as my example above shows, they can be intimidated by some coaches (Knight, for one example). ------------------ Pollution rules! I've explained my 'style masny times 2. coherent? just try keeping up anywhoo Make up calls at the end is worse than calling consistant over the whole game that allows one team to be 'aggressive' at the 'right' time and makes the other team 'passive' in order for that to be 'evened out' the one team would have to run up and in surmountable lead . . . . Also key fouls on Key personel in this time changes the WHOLE complexion of the game a fifth foul on francis with 10 minutes in the game IS WAY different that with 5 minutes left Hell a 4th foul in the third could be even worse because he cannnot play *his* game Rocket River ------------------
Rocket River: I want to apologize. I've been rude. You've always been supportive of the Rockets. I know I've been harsh, and I hope you won't hold it against me. I still think the game was fair, though . I do agree that Battier gets calls, but I don't think there's anything abnormal about that... Jordan did, Vince Carter does, and the best college player always will as well. I probably overreacted because I'm sick of all the criticism of Duke. Duke is a terrific academic school, AND excels in basketball... and they do so with a lot of class, generally. That's a rare combination, compared to other dynasties, the "bad boys" like FSU, UNLV, etc. I do think you're completely wrong about Coach K. Nobody currently in basketball has maintained elite status for so long for their program. Besides, everyone who's around him, opponents, players, faculty, media... has always found him to possess much integrity. hehe... if you're sick of it though, look forward to Battier's rookie year in the pros . Coach K *is* a great coach I think the fact that he made Scrubs look all-world says enough [Laetner, Parks, Ferry, etc] I see battier as another OVER HYPED duke player . . . I REEALLLY did not want them to win [I was happy when the BRAND team lost] I dunno . . . I hate star calls I hate the dream shake when hakeem travels [he DOESN'T ALWAYS TRAVEL] I hate the jordan 3 STEPS BETWEEN DRIBBLES because while they are great it diminishes their greatness If Jordan gets those three steps and Emmanual Davis doesn't It makes Jordan more of a defensice stud while make Davis look like a manador and it is wrong. . . diminishes the whole game. . . it's frustrating to watch I really hate MAKE UP calls.
