That seems to be the standard republican response to every question asked them these days. Go figure.
I think Kerry didn't really hold the same position personally- I think he's a liberal that knows that gay marriage is fine. In the infamous debate where he actually mentioned Cheney's daughter, it was in reference to the question: Is homosexuality a choice? His answer was no. I personally cannot imagine that someone holds the position that it is not a choice, but then be against gay marriage. I think Kerry knew that it was a totally unteneble position, that a significant percentage of democrats aren't comfortable with gay marriage even though they're okay with civil unions, and that if he came out in support of it he would never hear the end of it. So he goes with the polls and says he's against it. Which was totally gutless. I voted for the guy- but that was gutless. Speaking of gutlessness- the Decider gets some gutless points in that debate too. On the same question of whether it's a choice or not, he could have made a strong statement, considering how much he trumpets family values. He didn't. Totally ducked answering the question.
Yeah, one you take home for your mother to meet. Oh wait... Well, she knows when to shut up when it matters.
Kerry voted against the Constitutional amendment to discriminate against gays. Bush was a vocal supporter of that same amendment. It doesn't get more cynical than that, and no amount of post-hoc guilt trippiness from you can change that.
Sales for Cheney book tanks Mary Cheney's book, Now It's My Turn, has sold less than 6,000 copies since it hit bookstores on May 9, 2006. With a reported advance of $1 million, the book's publisher, Simon and Schuster, would need to realize a profit of $166.66 on each book sold so far in order to break even, an impossible goal for a book with a cover price of $25.00. Sales numbers from Neilsen Bookscan, as reported by the Advocate, indicate that during the week of June 3, the books sold 574 nationwide. This number, the Advocate reported, is 77% less sales than the number sold during the book's first week on the shelves, 2,445. http://www.rawstory.com/showarticle.php?src=http://pageoneq.com/news/2006/mary_061106.html
Well she pissed off Gay and lesbian groups so few sales there, and I don't see any right wringers buying it so.....who is suppose to buy this book?
I'll readily admit that I haven't followed the issue closely enough to offer an informed opinion of who said what to whom, and when. Or why, for that matter. However, I certainly cannot fault a woman such as Cheney, who apparently chose not to speak out against her father. I know virtually nothing about their relationship, but I can't blame her all the same. For example, my cousin is a lesbian. Her father, my uncle, had a huge problem with her sexuality, which understandably created an equally huge rift in their relationship. Although the rift was there, they still supported and loved each other, and didn't bad-mouth one another to a third party outside of close friends and family. These are two of my favorite people in the whole world. As time has passed, and as times have changed, things have gotten better between them. For frame of reference, my cousin is almost in her forties and has been "out" since she was a teenager. I find it curious that some in the gay community have taken the stance that she is an embarrassment. It seems that they want to have their cake and eat it, too. In my mind, it doesn't matter when she decided to speak out, only that she did. And who cares how many dollar signs are behind her reasoning? I can't imagine that this million dollar advance has much to do with it. She is a member of an oil-rich family, after all. I can't see that a million bucks was enough to bribe her into speaking out against her father, GWB, or conservatives in general, which is what some of the quotes in that article and from some of you seem to imply (or flat-out accuse her of). If there is ever going to be any progress, America has to stop fighting itself first, and the flak she is taking here and elsewhere is proof-positive that we still have a long way to go. Some of you ought to be ashamed or yourselves. I support equal rights. Stop the hate. Stop the in-fighting.
Mary Cheney is a coward. She makes me want to support a constitutional ban. Heterosexuals are fighting for her rights and she failed to use her platform. Whatever.
Of course not. If I wasn't clear, then I apologize. My comments were directed at those who appear to be slamming a woman whose speaking out didn't concur with some particular timeline of appropriateness. What I heard (read, rather) were people whining about how she chose to fit someone elses platform, rather than their own.
