I've been playing this game a ton over the past month against one of my friends. I sort of "rediscovered" it after not playing for ~6 months now that I have someone around my skill level (i.e. not very good) to play consistently. The timing of these MvC3 rumors could not be any better for me considering the above. I rarely buy games when they are first released or at full retail price anymore, but if they do this game right, I'll be there on the first day with $60. Capcom has the potential to exceed all expectations with this game (especially with the media exposure that Marvel has been placing on their properties), but there is also the potential they could greatly under deliver. This game has ten years of expectations built up for it. If the rumors are true, I am going to be really interested in seeing the direction Capcom goes with the graphics and gameplay since this game will most likely be "2.5D" like SF4. While I do think $60 is a lot for a fighting game, I think your commentary on the characters may not prove to be entirely accurate. I don't expect MvC3 to have balance on the level of Street Fighter, but if they have a huge roster like in MvC2, then that isn't necessarily a big problem. If only ~20 out of a roster of 50 is viable for competitive purposes, that isn't that different from the playable roster size of most "normal" fighting games. Also, purely speculation on these next two points, but if they revamp the roster, who knows which characters are even going to be the best. There may not even be a Sentinel or Cable if they make MvC3. If Capcom patches the game or releases an upgraded version (ala Super Street Fighter 4), they can correct some of the more game-breaking imbalances in the characters.
PLEASE change the soundtrack. That jazzy crap was so unbearable to listen to while dropping 100 hit combos. Yeeesh.
A whole year to make? Thats pretty ridiculous. They should just take the old game engine add a bunch of character's and get rid of the god tier.

I disagree so much, but to each his own. Not that I haven't heard it plenty over the years, but I liked it personally. But anywho, this is the first game I've looked forward to since Smash Bros. Brawl and that was a disappointment to say the least.
WANNA TAKE YOU FOR A RIDE! Now my life is complete. The video makes me a little nervous though. It looks too much like Marvel Nemesis, a crappy fighting game. The formula is simple: 1. MvC2 engine 2. new characters 3. better graphics 4. profit 2 awesome comebacks, in the same match (yes, I'm a nerd): <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/pRBBL3QJrQM&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/pRBBL3QJrQM&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/tU35mLbumR4&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/tU35mLbumR4&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
rumor has it that the new characters include Deadpool, Antman, Viewtiful Joe, Black Widow, Frank West, Super Skrull, Mephisto, and much more.
It's been in production since 2008 apparently. They are using Capcom's new engine that all the current gen games have been made on. The art looks like it is going to be really cool. A sort of 2D look on 3D characters. Early word is they are targeting around 30 characters in the final version. I would've preferred closer to 40, but I guess we'll have to see what they end up with in the final version. If it does well, they can always release an upgraded version a year later with a handful of new characters.
A lot of that is pure speculation and I would take it with a HUGE grain of salt. People are just making assumptions on which characters could possibly fit into the silhouettes on the marketing pictures. However, Deadpool and Frank West are virtually confirmed.
See I really don't get it, maybe DD could explain... from what I understood Capcom's rights to the Marvel license expired some time ago. How could they be working on it since 08? Did they recover that license? I assume so... or did it simply never matter? Remember, I think EA and some other company were making Marvel games.
Marvel splits their licenses into smaller parts. Per my understanding, EA had the Marvel license for the purposes of fighting games, but lost that license in late 2007 after they dissolved their partnership.
Nemesis was a different game. Different publisher/developer. It won't be similar. Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom for the Wii directed by the same guy who's in charge of this. Kind of a preview. <object width="500" height="405"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Nd4yUQwlIrg&hl=en_US&fs=1&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Nd4yUQwlIrg&hl=en_US&fs=1&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="500" height="405"></embed></object>
I tried this game out at Gamestop. Very well done for a Wii game, but the controls were weird. I'd like to see it out on the PS3.
Confirmed Characters: Hulk Wolverine Iron Man Ryu Chris Redfield Morrigan Characters who are virtually confirmed by their (silhouetted) appearance in marketing pictures: Chun Li Dante (possibly Nero?) Trish Felicia Frank West Deadpool Super Skrull Captain America
