Agree completely on #1 Spoiler No idea. Wasn't Stark right over the explosion just like Stane? Very strange indeed. Jeff Bridges was awesome by the way. If RDJ wasn't so good as Stark, Bridges would have easily stole the show. Spoiler I admit, I was a big comic fan growing up, so when Rhodes looked at the second armor I marked out for a moment.
spiderman 2 was probably my favorite superhero movie, but this movie was just as amazing imo. it really had everything i would want in it. i may go see it again later tonight it was that good imo. RDJ did a great job as stark imo, and paltrow was good too. in fact when i was watching the movie i thought it was her but i kept thinking she wouldnt take a smaller role like that, but she was good in the role. hopefully they do create war machine next time.
Not much of a spoiler: Spoiler They lay it out that the bald guy was a warlord, not a terrorist, and the doctor that takes care of Tony says that there are all sorts of different languages spoken there. He lists them, but I wasn't taking notes...but one of the languages was Russian (white folks). The bald guy wants to carve out an empire in Asia, not strike back at American infidels. So you could probably read between the lines and figure that his soldiers are mostly mercenaries, including Russian white folks.
Spoiler Apparently in the novel version of the movie, the terrorist "leader" reveals that he is not the leader at all. He refers to a "higher power." (I.E., the Mandarin)
It would be awesome if The Avengers fought Superman instead, because the Hulk seems a little too easy. But I don't think Superman is in the same company as Ironman and co. I actually wanna see these superheroes fight eachother... like maybe the avengers fighting x-men. Whoa I think I just got a boner. Spoiler I think the reason why Stark wasn't injured by the reactor was because he was kinda blown and pushed away to the side in by the initial force of the blast. Plus I was under the impression that Obadiah and his lame ugly metal robot was too heavy to get blown off too. Spoiler Did anyone else know Obadiah was a villain from the get-go? I dunno if it was intended for his character to be evil from the beginning, but if they were trying to surprise us, it didn't work My little nit pick of the movie: Spoiler How in the world was Stark able to construct a full metal robot suit under the watchful eyes of the terrorists??? Don't these guys ever check every couple of hours or so? If I were watching the camera I'd tell someone to go check what's going on at the first sign of Stark being off the screen. I swear, terrorists hire the dumbest workers. Pepper was damn hot! Why Stark was not hitting that from the beginning bottles my mind. Especially since he's supposedly a playboy and all.
No, they can't fight Superman unless DC and Marvel get together. Also, the Hulk is not easy by any stretch of the imagination. Marvel ran a whole story arc titled "World War Hulk" in which Hulk returns and basically kicks everyone's butt. Spoiler #2, the answer is yes. Your third spoiler was something I was whispering to my wife during the film.
Spoiler my biggest beef really with the iron man story i think it is the same in the comics (cant say for sure havent read it myself, just seen cartoons). i mean they have all these soldiers and not one is kept inside to keep a eye on stark and yensin. they have one camera and even if they are keeping watch its pretty simple to see that what they are building isnt a missle. i mean one guard inside how hard is it?
I think Marvel needs to be selective about which characters get their own movie. Some (like Spider-Man & Iron Man) are tailor-made for the big screen while others will be very difficult to do unless the "origin" story can be made into a compelling theme. Quality is better than quantity. I'm not so sure on the idea of an Avengers movie. Too many heroes becomes a distraction. If they feel obligated to flush out every undeveloped hero, whatever plot the movie has will be lost and fall flat. If they team up already known heroes, maybe it would work. I should add that I wasn't the biggest Avengers comic book fan and the disgraceful Spider-Man 3 makes me skeptical on multiple heroes & villians.
If they do the Ultimate Avengers, they could do a small group. One of the benefits imo of the Avengers over the Justice League is the power levels. It's hard for me to envision a successful plot featuring Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Superman, and Green lantern, let alone anyone else, on film. Those guys are so powerful that the on screen portrayal would be crazy. The Avengers though have Hawkeye, who's simply an archer, Cap America who's basically batman, Black Widow who's a really good spy, Iron Man which we've already seen look good, some scientists who can shrink and grow, and Thor. Thor is the only really powerful member of that group. They could work an effective story imo.
If you're talking Ultimate Avengers (and maybe regular Cap, I don't know) then he is considerably more super-powered than that.
He is, but it's not like he's Superman. He's at the peak of human physical achievement, but he can't fly, doesn't shoot lasers from his eyes, doesn't move at the speed of thought, etc.
Yeah, but I think he's more of a 'superhuman' than Batman though. The super-soldier serum enables him to do stuff like knock out The Hulk or even survive being frozen alive for forty years or whatever. (If I'm remembering the Ultimates correctly)
I'll admit that I haven't read the Ultimates, just recaps in the last few days, so I don't know. But in traditional comics, Cap wasn't super strong or anything, he was just like an Olympic athlete in everything, including his strength. The Hulk on the other hand is a smasher.
The X-Men movies were super-team flicks. They didn't go into the back story for every character. And ensemble flicks work if done right- The Usual Suspects, Ocean's 11...these are well-done movies with lots of characters. Spider-man 3 was just not that good of a movie...I don't think it had anything to do with there being four super characters.
Spoiler It's like going to a Superman movie and being surprised when Lex Luthor turns out to be evil. He's a bad guy in Iron Man lore.
To you guys that mentioned Stark's drinking/partying being downplayed... I disagree. It was there early on (the movie is so long and so fun you probably forgot how thick it was laid) Spoiler but after his capture they wanted to emphasis his newfound cause and focus. It was a good move IMO. Makes him so loveable
I agree with this, I mean, how much more did they need to show? We only need one "one night stand" to see that he does it all the time and that there's a well worked out drill for what to do afterwards. Stripper pole on his private Jet for his flight attendants to dance on, always drinking, what more do you need?
