All i could think in the action scenes where they're only human vs brainwashed goons who could feel no pain. Also mossad widow is crazy short to pack any sort of knockout punch with those jump cuts.

I mean that little guy from the Raid or Ong Bak movies was no joke, but those movies took time for you to see how deadly he was. No one-off half second clean sweeps with a finishing pose. Just a barrage of pain where you're forced to accept how deadly he was vs Tony Ja or whatever hero was against him.

Liked it and how it tied into Ed Norton’s hulk movie

I went in with very low expectations and I think it’s way better than the MCU nerds are making it out to be. I feel like those people get way too exited or something and if the movie isn’t the Godfather they act as though the movie is an abomination.

Next week they’ll all start hyping up the Thunderbolts for months and theorize every aspect of the movie and if it’s not exactly what they wanted in their fan fantasy version they’ll hate it.

Same thing happened with Game of Thrones the minute the show went ahead of the books. It could have been way better sure but I think the nerds only hated it initially because it wasn’t the fan outline they had written themselves of what they wanted to see.

As a fan of the books but also someone who understands the transition from book to screen is never going to be 100% perfect: The last season of GOT clearly lacked character and storytelling depth that Martin’s books gave the earlier seasons and exposed the showrunners as hacks. They had the general plot line from GRRM but couldn’t duplicate his prose in any way. I think I could have written a better script for the last season.

Yeah I’m not saying it was good. But the main thing at the time was just the overall discourse about things not happening “the way George will do it”… which is code for how I theorized it should happen as a fan.

The bad writing, plot holes, etc… yeah it wasn’t good and D&D haven’t done much of anything since because they were exposed. That being said the fan discourse was over the top and I think the same thing happens with Marvel… which by the way has some pretty silly comic plot points and characters from the source material too. People are just a little too invested at this point and miss out on decently fine movies because of it.

Don’t even get me started on the Star Wars nuts. Good lord those people are the worst.

People have agency here and could spend their money on movies like The Brutalist but they don’t. They keep spending all their time and make careers out of covering comic book movies hoping they will be as good as The Brutalist meanwhile not actually spending their time and money on The Brutalist or name your Oscar worthy film that nobody saw.

As an older, seasoned nerd, I can agree with this. It's not my life anymore, much like the Rockets and the NBA don't affect me like they used to due to the crooked, corrupt nature of the NBA.

I think the only 'Marvel' movie that pissed me off in the past 20 years was the first Wolverine solo movie, but then it became clear how bad Fox was running the whole X-Men franchise. Logan was a decent comeback but it still was just a jumble of storylines thrown together.

Diz had a great run and upped expectations. The disappointment comes from regressing to the mean.

They might hate the fanboys complaining now, but that's better than their new movies getting as much hype and attention as Fox's FF4 remake where no one cares.

SAME on the Rockets. Post-covid (post-tilman really) I don't care much. Numb to it.

As far as the MCU goes, the only thing that really engaged me recently was the xmen cartoon but it sounds like the magic that was there will likely be gone in s2.

I actually never loved the DD Netflix show, but it could be a darkhorse. I don't think there's any pressure on it (nobody cares) but they are treating it like it's important.

2nd last season was also poor... showrunners just wanted to leave

House of Dragon season 2 started off with a good episode then enraged me with the poor writing and execution. Not sure if it was because Sapochik left or they had a mandate to use female directors who just don't get how to execute but it's dead to me.

It's terrible. The storyline is using every stereotype to try to get a reaction, and when that doesnt work, throw in some homosexual rape. Truly fogettable but gets award considerations due to same ol content

I saw it yesterday and it wasn't that bad... Movie went pretty fast...

Keep in mind this movie is like a re-do over for the MCU as they start over.. but all in all not that bad, as someone stated keep your expectations low.

To clarify, I was talking about BRUTALIST. I don't want to go to the MCU movie. But will watch on TV.

... It IS offensively boring. A truly "MAGA" statement to make. You never care for the characters before they fall into junkiedom. They are simply overused stereotypes meant to make you look past a completely random script. Bad horror movies follow the same strategy, but this one culminates in an out of place rape between 2 guys because you know... we must get the Jews

I like Brody but this was a garbage movie. Compare it to the Pianist, where he plays a strong character in something with an actual story , and you can see awards have nothing to do with quality anymore
