Da: I don't lock threads because I disagree.

dc: Who is tolerating racism? I'm saying that you don't stop racism by shutting down every racist website. In fact, that may be the best way to ENCOURAGE racism - by attempting to squash it.

Yeah DaDa, but this is Clutch's board. So I don't think you can say whatever you want.

On topic, I agree with Jeff, etc. Those dudes have every right to put up whatever they want. If you don't like it, don't visit the site. If you don't like the Constitution, move.

I'm sure there's something you could do. Organzie rallies, boycott any site hosted by the same people hosting this site, protest outside the hosting company, send them 10,000 e-mails a day saying that you hope their daughters get impregnated by black men, etc., and I'd support both your right to do those things and your message.

However, asking the government to shut it down is the first step down a road we don't want to go, ever.

The website is stupid, but they have the right to run it... okay, that's been (pretty much) established. What about the veracity of any of the claims they actually make on the site? I'm sure most of the outrageous stuff on there is all lies, but then where do you guys think they get that sort of information? Do they make it up? Take stuff WAY out of context?

I'm seriously just curious. I hope none of this post came out sounding like I agreed with anything they put up there; I don't. I just want to know where they came up with it and why it's false.

    Whoa Nomar,

Check the Winking guy on my post...it was meant as a bit of fun...nothing more.....

By the way Jeff, I agree, let Racism exist in the open, don't legislate against it.

This IMHO is the only way it will die out in a normal fashion.

    Let me illustrate my point.

    FOR EXAMPLE ONLY...

Say you have a white business owner and he/she will not hire any blacks. Also, you have a black business owner who will not hire any whites.

Both of them lose out on a whole section of business based on their racist edicts.

Now you have a smart business person who only hires the best person for the job....eventually this person is going to win and all the racist shops will be out of business.

This is the only way it will die out, it has to be naturally.

dc: RM95 summed it up perfectly. If you don't like it, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Don't ask the government to fix the problem. There are dozens of different things you can do to combat racism and, specifically, websites like this one.

    Jeff, check your email please.

Let me make myself clear (and hopefully end this thread). I NEVER asked the goverment to do anything, I just think the website I am talking about should be shut down.

Who will shut it down if not the government? Who else has the authority? Jeff's right on this one (I think I need to lie down :D). While there are a few restrictions on free speech, they are not of the kind you are asking for.

That's true...if he did all my threads would be immediately locked. :D Jeff and I don't agree a whole lot...but I do respect the facts he brings to the argument.

What about the company hosting the web site??? Seems they have every right in the world to restrict content! AOL sure does!

The government can't do anything...but if you feel strongly about, you sure as hell can. Find out who hosts the site...put pressure on them...make it uncomfortable for them to justify leaving it up there. If someone gets the ball rolling, I'd be happy to help.

    This could be considered harassment.

Voltaire - "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

President Thomas Jefferson - "If there be any among us who would wish to dissolve this Union or to change its republican form, let them stand undisturbed as monuments of the safety with which error of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it."

I would like flag burning (wouldn't destroying a symbol of free speech be an advocation for it being removed from you?) to be outlawed because its offensive to patriots, but the outlawing of flag burning would be worse than the original act. Just because the defamation of Mr. King pises off most of America, doesn't give us the right to limit someone's speech without just cause like harassment.
