Good for you, you get a cookie you saw him first.... And I started liking him when I saw how he played in the Summer league, and then throughout the season he plays the style of ball that I adore.....Kevin Martin does too except for the defense part. HAHAHA....I was one of VERY few who loved the trade from day one, you can go back and see many posts from me about that VERY thing. As for Jack of all trades, I think Brent Barry in his prime is where Chase is heading, maybe a bit more of a scorer, but that kind of player. DD
I hope they are both on the Rockets for the next 3-4 years and we get to see what becomes of them. If we need to upgrade the talent this summer, i'm afraid Bud is gone.
The point of that was to show that for someone who has followed and been a fan of Bud for years, I still have a more objective view of him
No, you have your OWN view of him, doesn't make it right, or better than anyone else's.... We all are entitled to our own opinion based upon our own life's experiences.... No worries, you can drive the train if you like, I am firmly on board...I think Chase will be a very important player, not a star, but a guy who makes EVERYONE else better, kind of like Shane but better on offense and worse on defense. DD
Usually I don't have a problem with anyone's analysis or opinions................but to say that Budinger "will be better for our team" than Kevin or even be eventually better is crazy talk. Kevin has legitimate All Star scoring ability while Chase is limited to fast breaks and mostly set shoots & screens. That alone sets Kevin apart from Chase. He (Chase) simply doesn't possess the quick-twitch quickness and athleticism of Kevin, rather its more often than not a build up (although he shows surprising spurts of quickness), which really limits how he can play offensively, even if he improves ball handling ability. Both are extremely soft on defense and will likely always be like that. Chase has better vision and better passing skills off the P&R but Kevin's FT attempts negates that advantage too. Chase has the potential to be a consistent starter and post solid numbers but lets not confuse him for anything more than that.
Good to know, DD. I can't keep track of your opinions on every issue. I, too, have been a "Battier guy" from Day 1. It was tough passing on the potential of a Rudy Gay, but (1) Shane was one of my top 5 or so favorite players BEFORE the trade and (2) the Rockets weren't going to draft Gay anyway. I would have LOVED to have had Brent Barry in his prime on the Rockets, but Kevin Martin right now is probably better than that. Sure, Barry can do more; but Martin does what he does SOOOO damn well. And when he's FINALLY paired with a dominant big man (a declining Webber was traded after Martin's rookie year), I expect great things from Kevin next year.
if you give away Martin and put Bud in starting role, we're basically saying we want to be in the lottery. I've watched Bud on D and he's horrible. He's also horrible at rebounding. The playoffs showed that defense and rebounding wins championships. Not the dribble drive and scoring efficiency of a player.
He just doesn't understand Bud's limited offensive game. He thinks he creates for others....I don't see that.
I like Chase Budinger's game. But I love Kevin Martin's game. They both have high bball IQ. Both can shoot. Both are decent passers. Both could improve defensively (although Martin's D is clearly underrated on this board). CBud would probably become a better rebounder than Martin ever will. I would take Martin over CBud solely based on mentality. Martin may not show a lot of emotion, but the boy is fierce. Always attacking, never stops moving, never hesitates, goes for the 3 when down by 2 instead of just trying to force overtime. I want Martin on my squad in the playoffs in the same way that I want Kyle Lowry with me. CBud, I just get that Keith Van Horn feeling that something is missing. One minute he wows you and the next minute he's MIA. Perhaps I'm all wrong, that's just what I see.
I've followed him a long time and I'm still surprised by him sometimes lol. But again, I think more than anything its his lack of suddenness and quickness that limits his offensive capabilities. Physically, its probably the only thing lacking.
The real value of Chase is his friendly contract at a "paltry" 0.7mil for the next several seasons. He is a great asset but if the piece is right, I would sell high with no regrets.
