This vote depends on who is coming with these three players if it's Caron Mike Miller and Haywood then I would go with Caron over Iggy and Martin unless Philly gives up Speights or Sac gives up Hawes
Morey's stance on Dalembert kind of baffles me.. I understand the salary cap implications, but a) we need a legitimate backup 5 with size for Yao and b) his contract is up after next year. That's not exactly a cap killing contract, it's only on the books for another year after this one. If Philly offered me Dalembert/Iggy for Tmac, I'm taking it. Maybe Morey has it on the table and is waiting for the deadline to get closer to see if he receives a better offer.. but an elite SG/SF and a good center with size for an aging, injury-prone McGrady coming off one of the most serious surgeries you can get? IMO, you do this trade. Dalembert then becomes an expiring chip for you next year if you're worried ab Lux Tax.
Iguodala is overrated and he is just an Ariza upgrade. But he's not a star, he's not a franchise player and he's not a leader
Knowing Morey, I think he realizes the oppoturnity of great Kevin Martin can be in Rick Adelman's offense.. --One thing to realize is that chemistry doesn't necessarily mean the most "fittest" or "strongest" or "tallest" players..it's simply the best possible way a TEAM can mix well within an offensive and defensive scheme... --I can imagine, having Kevin Martin mix VERY well with Brooks, Ariza, Scola and Hayes.. -- Ariza is really a true SF. Once he realizes he's not a shooter..he can just focus on defense and be a "scorer" inside the 3-point line. -- Poll Pick...Kevin Martin!
Can someone post the injury history for Martin? I tried looking for it but couldn't find all of his past injuries in one place. I know this year he was out with a wrist injury. I'm more willing to take a risk on a guy like Martin if his injuries are not of the recurring type (IE: McGrady's back/knee problems and Yao's leg/foot injuries).
Maybe Morey is saying to Phili that Iguodala is the long contract that we're relieving off your hands. If you want to add Dalembert on top of that and we relieve you of 24 mil in salaries next year then give us Thaddeus Young as well
I think the Rockets would be lucky to have any of these players. Kevin, Iggy, Caron, + a Bosh trade would make us contenders instantly. But if I had to chose of on the first three, I'll go with Iggy.
If you had Andre Iguodala, would you trade him for an expiring contract? That very well may be Morey's stance, but I don't think it's too realistic.
Iggy is sick....the rockets would be foolish if this deal is on the table for Mac + anyone but Landry / Brooks. I think DM thinks we are going to be able to make some HUGE splash in the FA market this summer....however, when was the last time we brought in a HUGE FA? again, im not talking about a big trade splash (Tmac, Pippen (for what it was worth at the time of the trade), Drexler, etc.)....i like our chances of bringing in Iggy as this top "FA" almost and then trying to re-sign him. The dude is 25, a BEAST and can plain out score. He is everythign we HOPED Ariza would be. for those thinking we are going to get Bosh, Johnson, or Wade in the offseason, keep dreaming. this is our shot to make a splash now and finally do something with the McGrady asset. If Philly is game we would be foolish to not play ball...
Phili's salary for next is at $65 mil With Iguodala and Dalembert gone (and the Rockets being really the only team able to take on that much contract) they'd lookin at $40, which could net them a nice free agent. So sure, I can see Morey ask for Young as well.
all i can say regarding Iggy deal is MAKE IT HAPPEN.... Brooks Iggy Battier Landry Yao Lowry Ariza Budinger Dalembert Anderson that looks pretty nice to me...and gets Ariza coming off the bench where he probably should be to begin with...
There are several teams with expiring contracts - off the top of my head Camby (LAC) and O'neal (MIA) are the two biggest ones. Philly sucks. But the problem isn't Iggy, he's been their best player. I just have a hard time seeing a team giving up their best player AND one of their best young assets just to rid themselves of a contract. (ESPECIALLY Dalembert's who only last another year.) IMO, that would have been like the Rockets trading Francis to get rid of Cato's big contract. And the team we trade them too is offering only an expiring contract back, and wants us to throw in Mobley for taking on Cato's contract.
we would have to send Philly some sort of other asset, i am guessing Scola which i can live with considering what a beast Landry has become...
Camby only makes about 9 mil this year. JO is one, but Miami is trying to score themselves a LJ or Bosh, they're not settling with Iguodala while adding a Dalembert on top. Also I'm not saying that Young would be a deal breaker, but knowing Morey, he'll ask for it. And depending on how desperate Philli is.....its worth to ask
Granger, Caron, Iggy, then Martin.......1. Indy is not making money so why not relieve them some stress . 2. Caron because of the talent that will come with him plus the many expiring contracts on the wiz which will benefit us. 3. Iggy because the horrible contracts on phillys roster. 4. Martin because he isn't durable and no way would sac mess with that young nucleus and their older players are trash
It sounds like perhaps Morey is looking to make multiple deals and bringing in a guy like Dalembert will hamstring his efforts.
Obviously, you always ask for the arm and the leg. I like how Morey is approaching this - sweating the teams out until the deadline to get the best possible offer. I was a bit worried McGrady would be b!tching to the media about not being traded yet, but he's been a professional about this whole situation since they agreed to the trade. Notice, since the report came out about Morey and McGrady's agent meeting, McGrady hasn't made any public comments (that I'm aware of). He's quietly disappeared into the background - I think he deserves kudos for being professional about it. (Remember all the drama when he demanded out of Orlando?) To all the posters who hate these deals and would rather just let McGrady expire: get used to it. McGrady WILL be traded -- the Rockets won't risk having him b!tch about not being able to play all year. He's quiet now, but if no trade comes, they will have to buy him out. No way McGrady stands on the sidelines of a contract year content to not play - and that would be the story for anyone with any self-respect for themselves, not just McGrady.
What's the situation with Dalembert's numbers? I Know his stats have been dipping but whats with that (points/Rebounds specifically)? Is it injury?
The Rockets need a scorer, someone who can fill the bucket efficiently. Martin would fit in with this team best, I think. Instead of bringing more of the same (good all-around players who play D but aren't always efficient scorers), let's get someone who can make teams pay when Yao is getting the attention.
