Real GM copied this from new York daily news... That's what they do.. Copy ish. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b...&utm_campaign=Feed:+nydnrss/sports/basketball
This makes a lot more sense. If the Nets get Anthony, they need to move into win-now mode, and giving up remaining young assets for vets like Scola and Martin makes a lot more sense.
I know they just grab other sources but I'm just noting the nets would have a solid team next season with Harris Kmart Ak-47 Scola Lopez. I could see them making the moves, even at the cost of Favors.
.....you completely missed my point. my point was where there is smoke (seemingly random trade rumor) there is fire (morey is working on other deals that aren't being reported or rumored by the media).
Do whatever you can for either Favors or Lopez. If were going to make a list of untouchables Either Lowry or Brooks, legit PG for a young and upcoming team. Have to keep one. Keep Terrance Williams, the guy can straight ball and has great upside. Would be a good player for a young team. Slot in Favors at the PF Keep Hill at the C. Budinger at the SF. I would love to see a young lineup like that.
BimaThug, While I agree with you that it isn't the smartest move for New Jersey, I don't think it's out of the question for a few reasons: 1) While the Nets haven't actually said this (becuase they aren't allowed to), it's been widely reported (speculated) that they really like Scola. 2) They spent money very impulsively this summer on free agents, demonstrating a lack of foresight and giving at least me the impression that their cap space was burning a hole in their pocket. This is the kind of front office (if my impression is correct) that Morey could take advantage of. 3) Some media members in the league insinuated that Avery Johnson's comments about Brook Lopez last week ("dreaming" about his center getting 10 rebounds in a game) was a sign that Big Brook was in the coach's doghouse. He also sat Lopez during crunch time of a winnable game soon after making that comment. Could all of the above be speculation by an over-zealous, under-researched sports media? It probably is... but we can hope, right?
Scola + Martin for Murphy + Favors + 1 or 2 first round picks New Jersey starters Devin Harris Kevin Martin Travis Outlaw Scola Lopez A solid team And the rocket has around 45 million in expirings contract + favors and the pics.
This. What is going on with some folks in CF? This so called trade would essentially turn the Rockets into the Nets and vice versa. I would rather have this current version of the Rockets than the Nets version. As bad as the Rockets' situation is there is no reason to be so desperate as to make trades for the sake of trades. I am glad DM is smarter than that.
No, actually I'm thinking the conversation is going more like this: Billy King: Scola and Martin are good. Morey, who do you want for them? Morey: How about Favors and Lopez. Billy King: That's it! Morey: Oh, and our #1 draft pick as well! Morey hangs up. Morey: Hey Larry Bird, how is it going. Larry: Fine. Morey: I got a deal on the table for D. Favors. Larry: Keep talking. Morey: Hows about I send you Favors, a #1, Bud, and say JJ for Granger. Larry: Deal! Rockets get Brook Lopez and Danny Granger Center - Lopez, Miller Forwards - Hill, Patterson Forwards - Granger, Battier Guard - T. Will, C. Lee Guard - A. Brooks, Lowry
I can envision this being the trade, Rockets get their stud of the future and a decent(expiring contract) replacement for Scola along with 2 of their million 1st rd picks and some filler. Lee and T-Will slide to the 2 and the new era of Rocket basketball begins. Lowry/Brooks Lee/T-Will Battier/Budinger Hill/PPat/Murphy Favors/Miller/Hayes All that before we use our lottery pick(s) this year and next along with our capspace.
Martin is number 5 in freethrows attempted per game behind Dwight Howard, Dwayne Wade, Kevin Durant and Lebron James. You gotta admit that is some special company. I'm more of an AB fan too DD. We drafted him, he is cat quick, dead-eye jump shooter, and a wrong-footed lay up that would make Nash shed a tear.... but lets not get ahead of ourselves, he is not "a lot more valuable" than Kmart.
Well I am not sure what the big picture is but if Morey really likes Favors then so do I. My concern however is we already have a really good prospect PF in Pat. Patterson already looks like a stud, arguably better than Favors. Can Favors play Center? I don't think so.
I've found Favors to be completely underwhelming but agreed if Morey likes him then so do I. I just worry he's another Tyrus Thomas.
Really don't want to trade Kmart but.. Favors + Draft Picks is a pretty sweet deal. All you tank proponents should love this. I don't understand why people even suggest Lopez.. it makes NO sense for the Nets. A lineup of: Harris Martin Outlaw?? Scola Lopez is pretty damn good.
I agree with this. If Favors pans out, I don't think it will be anytime soon. It's worth a shot IMO though. I'm for the Rockets taking some risks to get better. I would rather blow it up and acquire some young talent with upside, than be stuck in the 40 win range forever.
