This was just posted on SportsNation chat with Chad Ford... ADC (NJ) If the Nets do not get Melo, what do you think should be their Plan B? Chad Ford (1:17 PM) Really good question. The Nets have a bunch of assets right now and want to improve dramatically. They pursued Danny Granger at draft time and could pick up the pursuit again. I've also heard rumblings about a Luis Scola & Kevin Martin deal with the Rockets. While those guys aren't superstars like Melo, they help their team and won't cost them as much to get them. ESPN Thoughts...
if he is indeed talking about scola and martin to the nets...that would mean we are rebuilding BIG TIME.
Im all for that if he resigns, other than that I really hope we dont do something like that unless we can somehow get Nene & birdman or billups from the deal.. I really think that we have a better shot at Iguodala at the trade deadline without losing Martin thats just mho
When I saw this, the first thing that came to mind is that we'll be getting more assets from New Jersey.... A team that had a horrible record last season and this season. Murphy, Lopez and picks? Would that work? I don't see them giving us Favors and Lopez... And a center is what we need.
I don't see them giving up their pick also, it has the chance to be #1 in which I think it's a stretch for them to give up Lopez.
Martin and Scola to New Joisey actually makes sense, given the Nets' needs at those spots. Who DOES play the 2 for NJ, anyway? Or did we pillage all their 2's/3's not named Travis Outlaw? Martin/Scola make, what? $17 million combined? So that would involve...Murphy's $12 mil, Favors' $4 mil? If going after Favors, that would just go to prove Morey always gets his man. Although this is all speculation anyway. If the Nets figure out that Melo and the Nets are playing them to make the Knicks step up to the plate, then maybe this Scola-Martin thing would have legs.
