Thinking of... Do we have a thread of the late 80's early 90's club hits? Everything from chill The Orb to aggro Ministry? There's a whole bunch of one-off songs that I don't know the name of and for sure don't know the "band". Songs that you could not step foot in a club without hearing? 242, 808 State, Nitzer Ebb, Split Second, etc....
Not my time period, but I knew some people that really liked The Smiths Do they belong in this discussion?
You have to have VNV Nation and Front Line Assembly at any industrial club. Also a guy named Apoptygma Berzerk. More dissonant industrial includes early SPK, Test Dept., and Nurse with Wound. I love how this thread has taken a turn here. Thanks Mango or Buck or whoever for initiating this turn of events!
Great call. KMFDM also I spoke earlier of songs I know but have no idea of the name: what are the 2 or 3 great 808 State songs?
Yes, I cannot believe I forgot about KMFDM, especially Juke Joint Jezebel and Disobedience. I know of 808 State but they are more Madchester than Industrial and I never really got into them. I would go to YouTube and just listen to some 808 State songs and you will probably find what you are looking for.
Yeah...let's work on that, you may have been a bit young. This was a totally pimp album, and I could not tell you a single song name:
I need to get that album - you might want to check out A Guy Called Gerald - he was Madchester but also an early proponent of drum ‘n bass.
1. You lock the target 2. You bait the line 3. You slowly spread the net 4. You catch the man 5. @jo mama reminds us of it, again
I don't know what "Madchester" is. Educate me. I just remember the songs from back in the timeframe I mentioned.
Madchester was a movement that originated in Manchester in the late ‘80s. New Order was sorta the godfathers of the movement. But basically you had the Stone Roses, the Happy Mondays, the Charlatans, and the Inspiral Carpets plus James as the main artists. Primal Scream wasn’t Madchester but they had a Madchester like album in Screamadelica. 808 State and A Guy Called Gerald were also Madchester artists. The movement was short-lived but did lead to Britpop like Oasis, Blur, Suede, Pulp, etc.
