Unfortunately, Bush's desire to amend the Constitution re: marriage only encourages these wackos. I don't blame Bush for their stupidity but his position doesn't help. In any case, I bet there's only one family tree in that county. And it looks like a wreath.
Furthers my belief that the references to homosexuality in the Bible were the opinions of men, not the words of God.
Well here’s an interesting twist… -------------------------------- Oregon county bans all marriage PORTLAND, Oregon (Reuters) -- In a new twist in the battle over same-sex marriage roiling the United States, a county in Oregon has banned all marriages -- gay and heterosexual -- until the state decides who can and who cannot wed. The last marriage licenses were handed out in Benton County at 4 p.m. local time (7:00 p.m. EST) Tuesday. As of Wednesday, officials in the county of 79,000 people will begin telling couples applying for licenses to go elsewhere until the gay marriage debate is settled. "It may seem odd," Benton County Commissioner Linda Modrell told Reuters in a telephone interview, but "we need to treat everyone in our county equally." State Attorney General Hardy Myers said in a statement that he was "very pleased" with Benton County's decision. "It is my sincere hope that the legal process will provide clarity for each of Oregon's counties." The three County commissioners had originally decided to start handing out gay marriage licenses this week but on Monday reversed that decision amid a growing firestorm of lawsuits across the country, and decided instead to put a temporary halt to all marriages. http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/West/03/23/marriage.ban.reut/index.html
Good for Benton county. Seriously, this is the best way to protect the institution of marriage from both homosexuality and the centuries-long attacks by irresponsible heterosexuals. Let's just ban marriage. I would vote for that ammendment!
Are you saying that you want to marry your grandfather. See where allowing homosexual marriages will lead us...
I just wanted to tell you guys that I did my speech for the legalization of gay marriage tonight in Oral Communications class. I got a really good reaction from the class but two people in the class especially, one young lady was praising me on a good speech that taught people to be more open-minded. Another guy turned around and gave me a thumbs up. Two speeches later though a girl got up and did a speech on why homosexuals shouldn't be allowed to adopt so it kind of spoiled my mood but in the end I was still happy with the speech I gave.
cool. congrats and thank you LP. so what was the reaction to her speech? did she make any compelling argument to support her position or was it the same old "this has the way things have always been" nonsense?
In my opinion her argument was very weak. She gave a personal experience where a friend that she knew had gay parents and people made fun of her friend and called her names. Her argument, to sum it up, was that allowing gay people to adopt children subjects them to unecessary bullying and contributes to school violence. She gave stats on bullying and school violence and even referred to the Columbine incident when giving her speech but she never said that gay parents contributed to this violence and bullying. In my view she did a good speech on bullying but a very poor job on why gays shouldn't be allowed to adopt.
Excellent. The logic of the haters gets better and better. Gay people should not be allowed full rights because kids are mean to kids, and because kids are especially mean to kids who know gay people.
I meant to ask you guys about a certain letter. The letter I am about to post was submitted as a Letter to the Editor, a daily post in The Jonesboro Sun where readers can mail in their opinions of the day, common in many newspapers. Here is the letter: This was a response to a letter where a woman told of a preacher in the local area who was using words such as "queer" and "f*****" to refer to gays in his sermons and refering to them as an abomination to all of us. She said this disturbed her and was unnecessary for him to use such harsh language and we should all be loving Christians. My question, how would you respond to this in a letter yourself. I've tried to come up with the words but this letter infuriated me and I cannot think straight. If you wish to reply personally here is the website.
That lady, preacher or my brother for that matter, must not have the book of Titus in their Bibles: Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men. For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us . . . . This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men (Ti. 3:1-5,8)
Why do you refer to the lady as well RM95? She wasn't approving what the preacher said, in fact she disagreed. Did Imake it sound different or did I just miss something?
