Did you read the section I quoted? All of that is contained within. My comments were directed at the earlier post and why it was incorrect.
Gotta give biggio his due. I thought he'd be a pretty good hitter, but no where near this good so far. He's got more left in the tank that I thought.
Kind of wonder what would have happened if Biggio hadn't bulked up and gone fences a few years ago. He really did collapse suddenly... and now he's back to where he was (at least early on in the season).
It was your comment that a pitcher "only" gets a save, prior to the section you cited, that I responded to.
haven.. that's a good question. I always kept thinking of biggio as a star because he was really good not too long ago but then it seemed like a major collapse in his production and I thought maybe he just was one who fell off quickly once he hit a certain age. I wasn't ever expecting him to produce at this level again. I like the way we are giving him some time off. I'd be in favor of giving him a day a week off or something maybe two sometimes to make sure he is fresh the whole year. It would hurt us some, but may be helpful in the long run. It could very well be that moving away from 2nd is what is allowing him to produce like this again.
WOO Astros! Great win! I'll FINALLY be going to my first game of the season tomorrow, so I hope they do well. With the way Wade's been pitching lately, I'm pretty confident about the game being a favorable outcome for the Astros.
Just got back from the game... amazing again. For those of you looking to goto a game this year... you HAVE to go to a Clemens game. I've been to three this year, and each time... there's just something in the atmosphere that makes the entire experience both memorable and exhiliarating at the same time. The crowd is into it on EVERY pitch, players who make a great play get routine standing ovations, there are no random 7th inning waves by the fans.... its amazing. This city has grown to love its baseball, ever since the park has opened downtown in 2000... tonight, I saw a city that truly embraces this team like none other since the Rockets back in their glory days.
I just watched the end of the Cubs game, they lost, and the announcers said it was a strain in his triceps. Hope he misses some time. I hate wishing injuries onto guys, but I would love to see him miss some time.
That's so sweet to read. Really, that brought a smile to my face. I just love how loud the crowd gets in Roger's games. Like every pitch. Like when he struck out the side, they were standing up screaming in every pitch when he faced the third man.
this may or may not of have been posted: "And according to the Elias Sports Bureau, Clemens went into his start Tuesday against Florida with a chance to become the first pitcher in more than 40 years to win his first seven starts for a team he didn't pitch for the previous year. The last was Pierce, who won his first eight straight for the '62 Giants." http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=1799646 I am so jacked right now about the Astros, as I watched the game on TV tonight, I was so INTO every pitch, every at bat. I was screaming at every Astros "HERE COMES THE FREAKING FASTBALL ON THE OUTSIDE CORNOR AGAIN (and again and again..), JUMP ON THAT *BLEEP* AND KNOCK IT THE OTHER WAY!, finally Morgan got that full count and everyone in the whole stadium should of known what was coming next. Penny was tired and Morgan jumped it!
I still expect the Rocket to slow down somewhat as season goes on, but this is some incredible stuff here. I think that he has never been better in terms of starting the season in his career. And considering the accomplishments that he achieved in his HOF career, this is really something. We now have a three-game lead on the Cubbies who may have just lost Kerry Wood for some extended period of time. Things are looking very good for us.
he actually started 14-0 back in 86 which is pretty ridiculous. considering his age this is almost as impressive.
ESPN had a stat tonite. Clemens has started with a record of at least 6-0 four times in his career, including this season. On each of the other three occassions, Clemens won a Cy Young Award. The last time, I believe, was 1991. He started 6-0 before his first loss that season.
I hope I'm able to make one this year. I saw the Big Unit pitch when he was with us and the game was like that. What a stroke of luck getting the Rocket!
The Rocket is awesome...He looks like he can go and win every single time... I don't wish harm on anyone, but the Cubs rotation is hurting big time and it will definitely help us...
