That's a decent point. The 2011 postseason did a lot to dispel the notion that you have to have really good starters in your first three slots to have success in the playoffs. The Cardinals won with little starting rotation depth and the Phillies were at home for the World Series. I realize that is likely the exception rather than the rule, but I think it's evidence that the Marlins can win with what they have.

doesnt dispel the notion you need good SP to even make the post season though. the cards got in because the braves collapsed. sure the cards went on a hot streak, but if the sox hadnt collapsed the braves collapse would have been a much bigger story.

if they get pujols, its a different story, but if not i still see the phillies ruling the NL east, which means the marlins have to hope to get the WC. which means fighting the braves for it more than likely.

It doesn't matter how the Cardinals got there for this discussion since it was the Wild Card that they won. The Phillies should be the best team in baseball again. They should win the World Series. That doesn't mean they will.

The Reyes/Hanley Ramirez experiment is already off to a rocky start. Ramirez told the team today that he didn't want to switch positions. When they signed Reyes, I think most figured they would move him to third. If you're a Marlins fan (one of a dozen or so), you have to hope the team didn't promise shortstop to Reyes when they signed him.
