http://mashable.com/2011/09/27/mark-zuckerberg-killed-a-bison/ Keeping with his commitment to only eat what he kills, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg shot and killed a bison for food. Questions about Zuckerberg killing a bison began to surface during his f8 keynote last week. During his presentation, one box on his Timeline profile displayed that he was cooking bison burgers. This naturally raised a question with many audience members: did Zuckerberg kill a bison? The answer is apparently yes, he did kill a bison. According to Fortune, Zuckerberg recently obtained a hunting license and killed the bison now featured on his Facebook Timeline. “Yeah, he killed a bison,” one of our sources told us, confirming Fortune‘s report. Let’s be clear, though: Zuckerberg isn’t killing bison and other animals for sport. He’s doing it in order to be healthier and be responsible about the food he eats. We in the media may make jokes about Zuckerberg killing bison, but the truth is that his new dietary commitment is built on good intentions. Besides, how many of us can say we’ve killed a bison? I certainly can’t.
so what's the reasoning by 'only eating what you kill'? What is the moral code he is trying to live by through this? Is this a popular mentality?
http://mashable.com/2011/05/27/mark-zuckerberg-eats-kills/ I tend to agree with him. Most people are so desensitized that they basically think of meat as something that comes in styrofoam and plastic wrap in a supermarket. When you eat meat, it's important to remember that something died, IMO.
If the bison was wild, then it's pretty clear. (1) Wild animals aren't injected with a bunch of crap -- so it is indeed healthier for him, and (2) cruelty to animals. That is: if you are going to kill animals for food, do it like our ancestors did and not like the 20th century meat industry. Plus, go check out one of Tyson Foods chicken farms in Arkansas. Or a diary farm. You might not eat an egg or drink milk again.
I honestly think we should butcher the animals we eat at least one time. I personally think people are so removed from how food gets to our table that we have lost touch.
Its easy to talk and do this if you are a billionaire. Normal people don't have time to go hunt their own bison, cow, goat, etc.
If he's doing it to be a responsible eater, then he should probably only kill chicken, fish, venison, etc. And other animals that are easy to harvest/cultivate and don't take up more resources than they provide like pork, beef, etc. I mean really, how impractical and wasteful is it to go off and kill an exotic animal for food? This is the image that keeps popping into my head.
