In the holy trinity of the early psudo-Christian Gnostic church,

    Agape<a HREF="#def1">1<a> αγάπη - was God

    Logos<a HREF="#def2">2</a> λόγος (aka <IMG SRC = "http://www.batug.com/wallpaper/nbalogo150.jpg" width="45" height="50" > )- was the holy aspect of Jesus

    and

Pneunma<a HREF="#def3">3</a> αναπνοή - was the holy spirit.

In that sense, I guess you could say that while Jerry West may not be God, it might be possible to pawn him off as the son of God? Of course the people who believed this Gnostic crap often ate sperm mixed with blood in order to become closer to the Logos, so I for one am not going to champion the idea.

<a NAME="def1"></a>1translates as divine, unconditional, self-sacrificing love as opposed to eros - lust or sexual love or philia - brotherly love (the source for the name of the city Philiadelphia and it's incredibly inappropriate name "The city of brotherly love")

<a NAME="def2">2loosely translates as the word, reason or wisdom

    <a NAME="def3"></a>3translates the breath

I don't know. Do you think the logo is stupid enough to draft Drew Gooden ahead of Amare Stoudemire?

He had come on board shortly before that draft and was relying on the scouting work of the rest of the organization for that pick. And, was upset when he found out what he got.

For fair comparison to Kandiman, the last season's stats are
    Kandiman: 5.9pt(45.6% shooting) 5.2rb 0.9blk 3.1pf in 19.6min, missing 20 games
    Swift: 10.1pt(44.9% shooting) 4.6rb 1.5blk 3.0pf in 21.3min, missing 22 games

Swift is better at scoring and blocking, but worse at shooting percentage and rebounding, with 1.7min more playing time.
They are both foul-prone, injury-prone, and labled as underachieving for a reason.
I don't say Swift couldn't improve, but currently he is still at the same level as Kandiman.
BTW, Swift as a player well-known for his dunking, his shooting percentage is unexpectedly low as a PF.

Jerry West has an amazing track record of success, especially in evaluating talent early. If you look at NBA history, there really is no denying that. He saw what Posey was capable of, and stole him from us.

But, I have to admit, that contract for Cardinal last year? Geez. Maybe he IS getting old, and losing his touch, or getting bored ... maybe working for the Grizzlies will just do that to you ...

West's value of Swift was to offer him a contract starting around 8 million last year. Over 6 years, that's over 50 million. Swift rejected that. West just wasn't ready to offer him a max contract of 80 million plus, like Delambert is probably getting, and I think that's what he expected that others would pay him this summer.

Do you think West ever thought that Swift would accept the MLE, taking half of what he was previously offered? Swift REALLY didn't like it in Memphis, for whatever reason, and chose to become an unrestricted FA, so he could go where he wanted to go. He has always wanted to play for the Rockets, and be closer to home. Now it will be interesting to see if he did all this, just so he could be on a better team, or somewhere he really wanted to be. Will all his potential become realized? I sure hope so. Normally, I would never bet against West, but, this time, there might be reason to do so. It will be fascinating to see how Swift does, especially with teammates who want him here, and believe in him, and a coach who believes he fits and knows how to get the most out of his players ... remember Cato?

I thought agape meant "divine love"....but I guess you could equate that with God.

Jerry West is basketball's divine love!!!! LOL

(cueing up the stevie wonder's "overjoyed")...

Over time, I've been building my castle of love
Just for two, though you never knew you were my reason
I've gone much too far for you now to say
That I've got to throw my castle away

Over dreams, I have picked out a perfect come true
Though you never knew it was of you I've been dreaming
The sandman has come from too far away
For you to say come back some other day

And though you don't believe that they do
    They do come true
    For did my dreams
Come true when I looked at you
And maybe too, if you would believe
    You too might be
    Overjoyed, over loved, over me

True, but it goes to show you that West doesn't know everything that's going on. I remember West criticizing Yao, saying he wouldn't be a great shot-blocker and things like that. West is a great GM, but even great GMs make mistakes.

Make no mistake Pelican's post is overrated, but I will acknowledge effort and trial run. Swift in a worsecase scenario will get a passing grade. No way he can be around this type support in coaching, management, co-player request, and fan enthusiasm and not be affected, probably thrive. He's no Eddie Griffin and appears to handle himself with articulation, ease of manners, and 'in the moment attention' responses. Jesus, my man, what exactly are you trying to start?

Consider this position a deal done well, with maybe Lonnie Baxter being one of the 15 players under contract, and let's move on to addressing the #2 and 1 position needs.

Swift could hobble onto the court with one leg and do better than the Kandiman. Talk about wasting your talent! My biggest concern with Swift will be can he rebound and stay out of foul trouble. We know he can move his feet faster than the other snails on the team. As far as scoring goes we don't need him to lead the team in scoring but if he could be a Ben Wallace type of a guy who can get the garbage buckets plus hit a midrange jumper ala Juwan Howard he gets a passing grade in my humble opinion.

That's funny because I keep thinking we have a slightly better version of the MoTay and Cato combo with the Swift/Howard combo.

one thing i liked about kelvin cato is that he allways tried is hardest on the basketball court. one thing i hated about cato, is that his hardest was'nt enough.

You're joking, right? Maybe the last 2 years he was with us he gave 85% instead of the normal 50% the prior years.

Cato was respectable when paired with Yao. im hoping that Swift turns into a cheap mans Kenyon Martin.
